T.I. & Friends Cascade skate event was a kickoff to the Atlanta hosted Super Bowl. The event embodied Atlanta culture to the core- from the location, to the music, to the late arrival of the celebrity’s hosting the event. Cascade is the Friday night spot; it’s open late and is always bumping. An event with a guest-list full of celebs from out of state hosted at Cascade seemed like the perfect way to show the world what Atlanta has to give culture–wise.
The event was well organized and went on smoothly. NFL players of past and present arrived in full force- from New Orleans Saints’ running back, Alvin Kamara, to New York Giants running back Sequon Barkley. Barkley arrived with friend and fellow Giants player Sterling Shepard and Shepard’s supermodel wife, Chanel Iman.
Radio hosts and recently signed Roc Nation artists flooded in and quickly filed out, this was not due to the lack of great music bc the DJ was incredible and keep the skating rink packed and the people on the sidelines dancing. The opportunity to hang out with friends and meet new and upcoming artist was present, however, the space was limited, and these celebrities like the average guest were probably wondering where the big names were as well.
Big Boi showed up “to host” right as the event was meant to come to a close. He walked in a fur ensemble and made an impact. Skipping all media when he walked in to go directly to VIP with his security surrounding him. The event ended when it felt like the party was just beginning. The packed rink was forced to make an exit shortly after the arrival of Big Boi, who lounged and seemingly went unnoticed after he was tucked away in the VIP area.
Overall, the night was enjoyable, skating to Outkast, Gucci Mane, and other Atlanta favorites will never be a bad time. At a minimum the guest were able to skate around, and with, upcoming artist and NFL all-stars and have a fun night.
