Coming towards the end of his tour, rising star Alec Benjamin played at The House of Blues in San Diego on his sold out tour with opener Alexander 23. House of Blues in San Diego is a special venue for Alec. He used to perform outside of this exact venue and now he is finally able perform inside as the main act.
Alec Benjamin is a 24 year old singer songwriter from Arizona. Alec moved out to Los Angeles for college to pursue his passion for music. He was signed and shortly dropped from his first record label, but Alec continued to pressing forward with his music. He would play outside of venues in the parking lot when bands were in town and continued writing his own songs. Alec’s moving lyrics started to catch attention of new listeners and he ended up touring with popular artists such as Jon Bellion and Matishyahu. After signing with his new label, Atlantic Records, Alec has sold out two headlining tours, has his hit song “Let Me Down Slowly” playing on the radio, and the attention of his hero John Mayer.
As the clock ticked closer to the opening of the doors, fans started lining up, the line stretching out around the venue. As the doors opened, fans rushed their way down stairs like a kid in the candy shop, trying to find the best spot to enjoy the show. After everyone crowded inside, the lights went out and the crowd started to scream.
Opener Alexander 23 took the stage and captured the crowd’s attention. Fans held up messages on their phone saying “hella heart eyes for you” showing their support. Alexander 23’s music has such style and soul. His passion for his music really shows when he’s on stage and getting to know his fans. He has his own unique sound and is one you’d easily fall in love with. After Alexander’s amazing performance, the crowd’s excitement was growing. Once the lights went out and the intro started to play, fans started to scream with joy.
Alec started off the show with “Outrunning Karma”. He played some of his older hit songs such as “Paper Crown” and “Water Fountain” mixed in with some of his newer hits “If I Killed Someone For You” and “Death Of A Hero.” As the show came to a close, no one wanted it to end. They started chanting his name, yelling “One More Song!” Alec surprised everyone with 3 more songs, ending the night with his new hit song “Let Me Down Slowly.”
It has been truly amazing to watch Alec grow in his music career. From playing for 50 people at Echo Park 3 years ago to selling out his tours’. He has come such a long way but it is only the beginning for him. Be sure to keep your eyes out for what he has in store next!
