On this steaming southern night, Georgia welcomes home one of her own. Singer song writer Kristina Murray tag teams with opening act Riley Downing at the quaint “Eddie’s Attic” nestled in Historic downtown Decatur, Ga. The venue opened in 1992, founded by Eddie Owen, and is noted for attracting local rising stars and touring indie artists. Even their motto “Where Live Music Matters” tells you all you need to know about the people who frequent this popular venue. The night starts off with a wonderful story telling session about Country music, life and the tales of straight shooters.
Riley Owens, with his accompaniment John, settled the audience in with their two acoustic guitars and a huge raspy voice belting out song after song. These two musicians play together like good ole buddies from days of old.
Riley, a Missouri native, splits his time in New Orleans where he’s the founding member of the New Orleans Quintet “The Deslondes”. His ability to pull an audience into his World using his natural dry wit and charm only serves to enhance his story telling prowess through song.
But, after a quick watering hole break the audience settles back in for the introduction of the night’s featured act.
In walks, the beautiful Kristina taking her place center stage adjusting her guitar who I believe she must have loaned to Riley because she tells us he’s got her stings all out of sorts. After a wonderful welcome from the crowd she tells everyone “although I just got in from Nashville, TN I’m all Georgian.” In this writer’s opinion there’s a gentle spirit within Ms. Murray with a lifetime of experience. It all pours out immediately in the way she focuses in as if it’s just Kristina and her music.
She seems to go back to the time and place where each one of those amazing songs were birth bringing forth the hurt, anger, love and hope they emote. She clearly had us in the palm of her hands and we love it. So much so, after her set the sounds of “one more” were heard everywhere……and she gracious obliged. Be sure to check out her newest album titled “Southern Ambrosia” which gives you a generous dose of Classic Country and Southern Rock. Pick up a copy and if you can catch Kristina Murray on tour. You won’t regret it.
