Betty Who in Atlanta at Variety Playhouse

On your mark, Get set…. Go describes what it felt like to be present at Betty Who’s unbelievable concert May 31st in Atlanta, Ga. It all took place at the renowned venue “Variety Playhouse” located in the historic artist district know as “Little 5 Points” a melting pot of sub-cultures.

The night starts off with a line wrapped around the building of fanatics wanting to experience the Betty Who Tour.  At 8pm the door flung open and the night’s festivities began. You could feel the excitement and energy as we waited for the start of the show while the DJ played a vast assortment of tunes from techno to current pop music.

Starting us off on the night’s adventure was “Loote” an American pop duo consisting of Jackson Foote and Emma Lov Block. There could not have been a better group to get things going in the right direction as their energy match that of the audience’s. With the stage lights blazing Loote belted out songs like “Out of My Head”, “Your Side of the Bed” and “Longer Than I Thought” to name a few. It was so cool to see how they effortlessly played off each other taking turns singing lead and wowing the crowd.

After a short intermission, it was finally time to reveal the main act for the night.

The band came on stage and got things pumping playing music from the first of many songs of the night. Then, out of the mist and lights a tall statuesque diva with platinum blond hair and a sexy sequenced mini dress sprang forth with mic in hand as the crowd went nuts!  Betty Who, which is her stage name, was born Jessica Anne Newham in Australia and is an accomplish singer, songwriter and musician (did you know she even plays the cello)?

This was one of those rare occasions when the vocalist, musicianship and performance matched the hype that is “Betty Who”! It didn’t take long to know these were her people and she loved them all. All night long playing hits form her album “Betty” ( I Remember Betty Who”, ‘Old Me”, “Do With It”) the crowd seemed to know every word as she shouted for them to sing with her.  This is a must-see performance and I for one am a new lifelong fan.
