Union Duke – New Music Video for Ladidadida

Toronto folk quintet, Union Duke, shares their new single, Ladidadida, today with a stunning video to match.

Ladidadida is that rambling road-weary song in your head while you drive the last of many miles home. It’s the story of anyone who has to leave the things they love behind, the unbridled bliss of making it back in one piece, and the desperate highs and lows of the spaces in between.

“We played a festival in Lunenburg, NS a few years back, and one of the after parties was at this amazing place called The Lunenburg Seaport. They describe themselves as “A nautical museum, inclusive social venue, and makerspace, striving to promote learning, provide experience, and harbour appreciation of maritime history and culture, with an emphasis on simply messing about in boats,” Union Duke says of the video’s filming location.

“The room was beautiful and warm and just felt right for us so we made a point of returning there when we last toured out that way to shoot some videos with a local videographer, Katy Hopkins. Shooting the video out there worked out well as it plays off the theme of being away from those you love. The song is essentially about the hardships of touring (we’re the first band to write a song about that) and I’ve always thought of it as a pretty good musical representation of how touring feels so shooting it live-off-the-floor in a familiar but far-off place just felt right.”

Produced by Jeff Hazin, and recorded between his studio and Taurus Recording in Toronto, the track also features Alan Zemaitis (Buddy Guy, Whitehorse, Terra Lightfoot, Samantha Martin) on the piano. Ladidadida is a bit of a departure musically from Union Duke’s previous work while still maintaining the pieces that make up their unique sound: catchy melodies, top-tier musicianship and powerful vocal harmony.
