The Revivalists at the Fox Theater Atlanta with Anderson East

Written By | Lou Raimondi

The 4,600-seat capacity Fox Theater was filled for an incredible, high energy performance by The Revivalists Saturday night.  The Legendary theater-type venue, which has seen the likes of the Allman Brothers and Prince’s last performance, was the perfect venue for the energetic Revivalists.

Anderson East opened the night with a strong set, which had the audience engaged throughout.  Starting off easy and building with momentum, by the end of the set the audience was primed and ready for the Revivalists.

New Orleans own The Revivalists hit the stage, and in their typical take no prisoners approach, had the place jumping from the start.  Lead singer David Shaw came out and immediately went to the front of the stage and interacted with the fans.  The Revivalists have a dedicated group of fans who sang along with every song.  Several times the band thanked Atlanta for being there with them from the beginning.  They appeared to be truly enjoying this venue and this audience, including a brief interlude before “Catching Fireflies” where they performed the famed Atlanta Braves Tomahawk Chop!

Some of the highlights of the show were “It Was a Sin”, “BTBD”, “All My Friends” and “Got Love” which had the floor shaking as a packed house sang in unison.  “Got Love” appeared to strike an emotional chord, as people had their arms around each other and some swayed in unison.  Another key moment of the set was when the band covered The Who’s “Eminence Front” to perfection.  The band was locked in on this song.  Michael Girardot was on point on keyboards, Zack Feinberg was on another level on guitar, as was George Gekas on bass, and Rob Ingraham on sax. Andrew Campanelli and PJ Howard kept the beat on drums and percussions as David Shaw channeled Roger Daltrey.

The band didn’t want to leave and played two encores. David Shaw let his hair down and brought some young people up on the stage for and epic performance of “Wish I knew You”.  The kids were excited, which brought the audience to yet another level!  At the end David announced they had to leave due to the Fox’s curfew policy, but the audience was not short changed, they absolutely got what they came for!  If you haven’t seen The Revivalists live I encourage you to put them on your “Must See” list!
