Fresh off the release of their new album “Dragons”, Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors made their way to Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse for a great night of tunes.
Folks were lined up for two hours before the show started trying to get a good spot in the pit.
You could feel how excited everybody was as they waited for the opening band Birdtalker to take the stage, and what an entrance it was! They came out hot opening with Graveclothes and instantly igniting a contagious jam session that went through the crowd like a wild fire.
With a decent sized seven song set, Birdtalker really got to show what they were made of; Including a killer cover of Tom Petty’s “Runnin’ Down A Dream”. Ending the set with “Heavy”, they thanked the crowd for helping this song hit 50 million streams on Spotify!
After a short 25 minute change over, Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors took the stage and blew the roof off the place! Nobody said a word and Drew exploded with an End of the World opener before stepping back and ripping into Tennessee. The atmosphere was absolutely electric. People of all ages were there jumping and dancing to Drew and his band, it was unbelievable. After two heavy hitters, the band slowly went into “Maybe”. You could tell Drew’s love for this song and the passion in his voice as he sang the lyrics.
They continued to bring the heat, especially when Birdtalker joined them on stage as well as Abner Ramirez from Johnnyswim. Johnnyswim and Drew recently made an album together, so it was a very special surprise to get Abner guesting on “Ring The Bells”. After getting a killer cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” the show started to wind down. Closing the encore with his album titled track “Dragons” was truly a fitting finish to this amazing show!
