On this night, a near capacity group of young adults (3600) descended upon the grand majestic venue known as The Coca-Cola Roxy. The Roxy, Atlanta’s brand new concert venue, opened in April of 2017 and is located in The Battery Atlanta which is also home to the Atlanta Braves. The old classic version was located in Buckhead, Atlanta but closed in 2008. The 53,000 square foot two tiered venue has state of the art sound, lights and production capabilities for live music.
Tonight the marquee reads “Melanie Martinez!” If you’re a fan of the hit TV series “The Voice” you know full well who Melanie Martinez is? She subsequently rose in popularity in 2012 with her debut single (Dollhouse) and in 2014 released her debut studio album by the same name and the rest as they say “is history.”Now, she’s released her 2019 album and tour (K-12).
Joining her to serve as the appetizer for this grand tour is Lauren Ruth Ward. Lauren’s music has been growing ever more popular over the past 2 years gaining fans with every performance. Her sound reminds you of a 60’s rock band as she sings about her journey, life and vulnerabilities. I absolutely love her voice and sound. However, this group of fanatics came to hear “Show and Tell”, “Detention”and “Cry Baby” and there is only one person who could deliver on queue.
This was not just a concert it was a performance filled with personas, dancers and elaborates stage sets. As an onlooker you cannot help but be transported to the magical land called (K-12). How in the world anyone could top this tour will remain to be seen, but for now sit back and enjoy. Coming to a city near you,the one and only Melanie Martinez and she’s bringing school with her. IMPRINT was there…where were you?!
