DEBUT ALBUM BLKBX: WHT R U HDING OUT THIS SUMMER
Today, rising singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Grace Gaustad debuted her dreamy new single, “Sandman.” On the new single, which Grace wrote, she reminisces on simpler times with her vulnerable vocals across lo-fi beats and humming keys. Listen to it here! Alongside the release of the track, Grace also debuted the video for the song.
“Sandman” is the first single Grace has released from her forthcoming debut album, BLKBX: wht r u hding. Grace will welcome fans and listeners into the world of BLKBX, a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional, and multi-sensory world where all are safe and welcome, with a new song and accompanying video weekly this summer, culminating with the album’s twelfth and final track release on August 20th.
Of the release, Grace said, “Sandman is a song about childhood nostalgia followed by the loss of innocence in adolescence. The title itself comes from a story my mom used to tell me when I was a child about a little man who flew around the room sprinkling fairy dust in your eyes to help you fall asleep and have sweet dreams every night.”
BLKBX chronicles Grace’s life, shining a light on her experience as a bisexual teen who was gender, body and beauty shamed, and bullied for having a learning disability. The album was created as a safe haven for a generation beset with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, uncontrolled emotions, and tendencies to self-harm to be an outlet for everyone to come and listen and feel safe.
At just 19, Grace has quickly begun establishing herself as a young artist to watch. Earlier this year, she released her sophomore EP, Welcome To Jupiter 1.0. Billboard declared, “There aren’t too many 19-year-olds with the vocal firmness of Grace Gaustad”. Prior to her 2019 debut EP, Human, Grace uploaded a riveting and raw piano and vocal cover of Hozier’s “Take Me To Church” that organically caught fire on her Instagram when she was just 16 years old. With over 400k followers on Instagram, the clip has amassed over 25 million views and over 2 million views on YouTube.
