INCLUDES NOBODY ‘BREAKS MY HEART LIKE I DO’ LIVE PIANO VERSION
STREAM THE EP ON ALL PLATFORMS HERE
Released globally today [April 5th, 2023], newcomer Ava Lily unveils her second EP, entitled Sunday Music Club, stream here. The follow-up to 2020’s Higher Love EP, the singer-songwriter’s latest body of work is her most confident and yet most vulnerable to-date – exploring themes of self-destruction, sobriety, all-consuming relationships and prioritising self-love. Lily’s songwriting prowess continues to gleam, her ability to write delicate melodies and perform vocal runs with a flawless falsetto a stellar feat.
Of the EP’s release, Ava Lily said: “This project was created throughout periods of lockdown where I was reflecting on certain aspects of my life and focusing massively on my own healing. I’d recently become sober and was prioritising self-love having reflected on some unhealthy relationships and self-destructing habits. I’ve been the most vulnerable I’ve ever been on this EP, which has been really cathartic for me. It’s personal, but I hope you can take from it whatever you’re needing in your own road to self-discovery.”
Previously released as a live performance video, favourite ‘Nobody Breaks My Heart Like I Do (Live)’ is now available to stream as part of the Sunday Music Club EP, alongside the original studio recording.
The stunning live version was recorded in the grand backdrop of St John’s Church, Hoxton and was produced by Max Bandicoot (GOOT Studio). The gorgeously vulnerable, stripped-down track joins 2022’s ‘Tight Fit’ and ‘Sad Party’ on the EP, which boasted ethereal vocals and bass undertones developing Lily’s artistry and sound in the R&B/pop world. Latest release, February’s ‘Happy Switch’ adds a sonic playfulness to the tracklisting, while Lily maintains her use of poignant lyricism, haunting melodic sequences and thematic storytelling.
Ava Lily’s fantastic storytelling is no surprise to the industry, having written songs for some of the UK’s biggest musical talents. Originally from Bristol and based in London, she has been writing music and playing piano since childhood, using songwriting as a means of expression and therapy.
After being discovered by Naughty Boy from her cover of ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’, Ava Lily was signed to Virgin EMI where she collaborated with artists including Emeli Sande, Professor Green, Laura Mvula and James Arthur, and upon exiting her deal co-wrote ‘Common’ off of ZAYN’s Icarus Falls record. Through that process, Lily continued to hone her craft and develop an even deeper respect for the complex art of songwriting – and ultimately decided that she both wanted and needed to tell those stories as an artist herself. Since becoming independent, Ava Lily has received praise and support from the likes of EARMILK, Refinery29, CLASH, why now, The Independent, Official Charts, EUPHORIA, Spindle, Wonderland, Noctis, NOTION, HUNGER, New Wave Magazine and more.
Sunday Music Club cements Lily as one to watch in 2023 and beyond.
