East-London based artist Bambie Thug (They/Them/Far/Faer) is back with new double A-side single ‘Careless’ and “Last Summer (I Know What You Did)” ft. Jinka, out now via their independent label ‘HAUS OF THUG’. The two tracks also come with the announcement of a brand-new EP “CATHEXIS”, out October 13th and a huge headline London Halloween show.
Following the release of their spellbinding banger “Egregore” earlier this year, Bambie Thug continues the momentum with new double A-side singles “Careless” and “Last Summer (I Know What You Did)” featuring German hyperpop artist Jinka. Both tracks encompass the infuriating yet intoxicating realities of a one-sided relationship, and see Bambie unleash their emotions through anger induced basslines, hypnotizing ethereal melodies and raw lyricism. Directed by Becca Geden, the stunning visualiser for “Careless” once again dives into Bambie’s brilliantly artistic world, as they transform themselves into a cold blue Siren, a Greek mythological figure and symbol of dangerous temptation.
These two new tracks are the first taste of Bambie’s upcoming EP titled “CATHEXIS”, out October 13th and mark the first project since the release of 2022’s “HIGH ROMANCY”. The 7-track EP is set to showcase a more vulnerable side of Bambie Thug, as they touch on the heartbreak that came in the aftermath of their last failed relationship. Expect to see Bambie display their signature occult-based lyricism and versatility as an artist across the powerful project.
Talking about the EP’s meaning, Bambie says: “Cathexis is emotional investment in another, being deeply drawn to someone for how they make you feel. Many people who are cathecting will claim they are in love even when they are emotionally neglectful or abusive to a partner. When things aren’t going how they’d like, it is easier for them to wipe their hands clean of things and end the relationship because they were in Cathexis not Love.
Love is the will to nurture and support the spiritual wellbeing and growth of another. You cannot claim to be in love if your actions do not match the definition. This project is about me realising that I was in love and that he was only in Cathexis.”
In addition to the EP announcement, Bambie also shares a huge headline London show at Hackney’s Oslo on Halloween (October 31st). The immersive live show will feature a host of theatrical performers, cabaret style dancers and actors in what’s set to be a truly unmissable event. This headline show follows rave reviews from their debut Download festival performance which Evening Standard described as having “a genderqueer, occult-tinged, strikingly theatrical edge” and UPSET hailed as “a confident, comfortable set that turns Download’s Dogtooth stage into a sweaty rave”.
