DISHEVELED CUSS ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM FT. NATE WALCOTT, JIMMY CHAMBERLIN, JOSH KLINGHOFFER, AND MORE
Nick Reinhart, who makes solo music under the moniker Disheveled Cuss, has announced his second album, Into The Couch, as a self-release for September 30th. Watch the video for first single “Creep A Little Closer” in which Reinhart’s meager surroundings are taken back by nature, a beautifully rendered, visual effect-assisted video directed by Matthew Loren Oates. Written across the summer of 2020, the album started as acoustic demos, which he then began to send around to a lengthy contributor wishlist – the final album is credited with appearances from David Binney (Knower, Lost Tribe), Paul Bryan (Aimee Mann), Jimmy Chamberlin (The Smashing Pumpkins), Eric Gardner (Dot Hacker, Charlotte Gainsbourg), Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eddie Vedder), JR Kurtz (CSS, Disheveled Cuss), Billy Mohler (Jimmy Chamberlin Complex), Lisa Papineau (Big Sir, Air), Aaron Steele (Hayley Williams, Portugal. the man), and Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes). Even with the help of his friends and heroes Into The Couch, paradoxically is an album about a man alone by circumstance: A man in a Barry Egan big boy suit, walking through Jon Brion’s horns and twinkles. Walking his dog, walking to TJ’s for some scramble hash, walking just because it’s better than staying inside with all his art and his real life. Known for his work as the guitarist and singer of math rock greats Tera Melos, one half of Bygones, and as a frequent musical contributor to Death Grips and Portugal. The Man, Reinhart put out his first Disheveled Cuss album in 2020. The self-titled album earned praise from the likes of Stereogum, Fader among others, with Pitchfork noting that the album included “some of his best songwriting to date”.
The cover art for the album was created by Mark Desalvo, whose instantly recognizable visual stylings helped to create the Fat Wreck Chordsuniverse, a catalog held in high regard by Reinhart in his NorCal beginnings. During a trip to his parent’s house, Nick found an old photo in a high school note box and sent it Mark’s way. The objects and stylings in it time stamped to high school in the late 90s. Desalvo’s interpretation is a moment made to look like a renaissance-era painting, nostalgia made eternal.
