EMERGING BAND PRYVT DEBUTS NEW SONG “HOW WAS YOUR DAY?”
“HOW WAS YOUR DAY?”, the new song from emerging Canadian-Korean indie-rock band PRYVT. “HOW WAS YOUR DAY?” drifts through a haze of mellow guitars and wistful indie rock tones, capturing the quiet intimacy of small talk that hides deeper emotions. With its laid-back groove and subtly aching vocals, the track turns an everyday question into a meditation on connection, distance and love.
The new track appears on the group’s anticipated second studio album, BACK TO REALITY, which is set for release on November 14 via AWAL. Written and produced by members Sam Hanueland Justin “JT” Tecson, PRYVT has crafted songs that are built to pop onstage while letting the emotional essence of each track stand on its own. The new music covers a range of sounds, from bold rockers to dreamy atmospherics, serving as a companion piece to their 2024 debut.
On their first release, &SCENE, PRYVT created an album where each song felt like an episode of a TV show. On BACK TO REALITY, Hanuel and JT are taking a more unified approach, with imagery rooted in the natural world and songs that evoke the nostalgia of music from different eras, blended into one overarching creative vision.
“It pairs with our overall message of the power of love and how its tight grip on us can control the good, the bad, the ugly and the beauty,” Hanuel says. “Moments are captured like Polaroids, freezing emotions exactly as they were felt in that instant. It’s this gut feeling that fuels our visual imagery, with intentional details woven into everything from the music videos to the album’s design.”
In conjunction, PRYVT will perform a select run of album release shows at New York’s Baby’s All Right and Los Angeles’ Moroccan Lounge on December 3 and December 5, respectively. They will also perform a set at Streets, Eats, and Beats Festival in Phoenix on November 29. Full tour routine can be found below while tickets can be purchased at pryvtofficial.com.
Formed online in 2023, PRYVT met virtually and started making music together on a Discord server. Hailing from Vancouver, the two members came from strikingly different backgrounds: Hanuel was a child of pastors who grew up listening almost exclusively to worship music and old Korean ballads while Justin “JT” Tecson studied jazz in high school before discovering a passion for producing and DJing. By the time they connected on Discord, though, they shared a similar sense of burnout from their solo careers.
In the months that followed, the duo would go on to release five singles, treating each as a chapter in a larger story, which they conveyed through their debut album &Scene. With little information available on the group, listeners began coming up with their own theories, examining the band’s social media for clues and spreading their music like wildfire.
At times, the lyrics slip between English and Korean, but the emotions they convey transcend language, tapping into universal feelings of longing and desire, heartbreak and confusion, growth and acceptance. Last year, PRYVT performed alongside slchld and opened for wave to earth on their extensive North American fall tour.
