Hit Songwriter Teddy Geiger on ‘And The Writer Is…’ Podcast

HIT SONGWRITER TEDDY GEIGER DISCUSSES SHAWN MENDES, HER CAREER EVOLUTION AND BEING A ROLE MODEL ON ‘AND THE WRITER IS…’ PODCAST

On this week’s episode of the hit podcast “And The Writer Is…”, Grammy-nominated artist, songwriter and producer, Teddy Geiger talks to host Ross Golan about her dedication to the craft of making music, her creative relationship with Shawn Mendes and being accepted as a transgender woman in her community.

In the interview Geiger, who started her career as a teen pop star, discusses her evolution from being an artist to writing songs for other people. “I just really wanted time to get my hands dirty and play with stuff and figure out how to do what I want to end up doing,” says Geiger about her break from performing to focus on songwriting and producing. Geiger also speaks candidly about coming out as transgender and her view on being a role model. “Seeing people come out and be accepted is huge,” says Geiger. “And it was huge for me. So, I think even just the act of me coming out and being accepted by the community that I’m in and continuing to work with all of these people… Even just that can be inspiring to people.”

Geiger is no stranger to hit singles during her career. Her debut album Underage Thinking reached #8 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the hit single, “For You I Will (Confidence).” In 2015, she topped the charts co-writing “Stitches” for Shawn Mendes. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Top 40 Chart, has been RIAA Certified 6-times Platinum and won BMI Song of the Year in 2017. She has since continued writing and producing for Mendes creating hits such as “Treat You Better,” “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” the Grammy-nominated “In My Blood,” and new single, “If I Can’t Have You.” “He’s so f-ing talented,” says Geiger about Mendes. “He picks things up so fast, he’s super creative… He really knows like what he wants things to sound like.”

Teddy Geiger has also written for One Direction, P!nk, DeJ Loaf, Christina Aguilera, Lizzo and many more. In November 2018 Geiger released her debut album, Lilly Anna under the moniker teddy.
