Indie Gems PaleHound & Cherry Glazerr Take El Club

The El Club, located in historical Mexican Town (Southwest Detroit), is an all ages art venue that showcases Indie bands. An up close and personal space that allows for the audience to really engage with the artists which is exactly what happened as PaleHound and Cherry Glazerr took the stage, February 21st.

First to step up was PaleHound, a low-fi indie rock group out of Boston who sites influences from Elliot Smith, Angel Olsen and Kim Deal. (Fun Fact: The Boston Music Award was given to the band for new artist of the year in 2015!) The band currently features Ellen Kempner: singer/songwriter/guitarist, Jesse Weiss on drums and Larz Brogan on bass. Since forming in 2014 they have toured festivals around the world and have a pretty heavy schedule in the future.  A quirky mix of grunge-folk and nineties music that got the crowd going.  Retro infused vocals and impressive instrumental skills got the audience ready for the main course.

Forming in 2013, Cherry Glazerr, a three member rock band hailing from Los Angeles, CA consists of guitarist and lead vocalist Clementine Creevy, bassist Devin O’Brien and drummer Tabor Allen. They released their sophomore album,”Apocalipstick” on January 20, 2017. The album was recorded at Hollywood’s Sunset Sound studio in early 2016 with producers Joe Chicarrelli (The Strokes and The White Stripes) and Carlos De La Garza (Paramore).  Their sound is a combination of rock, grunge, punk and new wave.  They started the show with a high energy that the audience went crazy for and kept the moshing going throughout the show. Wild performances from both groups left me filled with the adrenaline and energy they intended to share. keeping me up much later than I probably should. Check these guys out if you get a chance!
