J BALVIN RELEASES RENDITION OF CLASSIC METALLICA SONG WATCH “WHEREVER I MAY ROAM” NOW
ALSO TOOK HOME TWO PREMIOS JUVENTUD AWARDS LAST NIGHT
J Balvin released his rendition of Metallica’s classic track “Wherever I May Roam” – which debuted on YouTube’s Top Trending Global Videos. Accompanied by a stark, black and white Daniel Duran-directed video interspersing vintage Metallica concert footage with Balvin rapping, the new song similarly mashes up the reggaeton style for which Balvin is known with samples and heavy guitar riffing from the original song. Balvin’s take on the rager is a stylistic evolution but retains the emotional weight of the original mega-hit and comes as part of Metallica’s 30th anniversary celebration of their landmark album ‘The Black Album.’ The new version of “Wherever I May Roam” is featured alongside artists such as Miley Cyrus, Elton John and Yo-Yo Ma and more on The Metallica Blacklist, an unprecedented 50+ artist project where each artist contributes a unique interpretation of their favorite Black Album cut. Available digitally September 10th, with physical formats to follow on October 1st including 4 CD and a limited edition 7 LP vinyl pressing, profits from The Metallica Blacklist will be divided evenly between charities of the artist’s choice and Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation.
Later this month, J Balvin will appear in Discord’s latest brand campaign, Imagine a Place. Discord, a talk, text and video communications service on a mission to create space for everyone to find belonging, is unveiling the next phase of its creative campaign with a new short film that highlights the many different things Discord means to so many people. The film will debut this month, and feature special guest appearances by J Balvin, Grimes, Awkwafina, Danny DeVito and more.
Last night during Univision’s premiere award show, Premios Juventud, Balvin was able to take home two awards. He won in the categories of “The Perfect Mix” with “Relación (Remix)” alongside Sech, Daddy Yankee, Rosalía & Farruko as well as “Video with the Strongest Message” for “Un Día (One Day)” alongside Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny & Tainy.
Balvin’s rendition of “Wherever I May Roam” comes after the artist released 3 viral singles, “In Da Getto” featuring Skrillex – which is the #1 Latin song searched globally on Shazam, “Qué Más Pues?” featuring Argentinian singer María Becerra and his remix of “Poblado” by Crissin, Totoy El Frio, Natan Y Shander with Karol G and Nicky Jam that are dominating the modern Latin Music market and global charts in the first half of 2021. All 3 songs currently sit on Spotify’s Global Viral charts and debuted on Spotify’s Global Top 5 Debuted Songs and have respectively achieved a number of staggering metrics. The new tracks’ success comes on the heels of “Otra Noche Sin Ti,” Balvin’s collaboration with Khalid, reaching #1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay and Latin Rhythm charts, marking a historic 29th #1 Latin song for the artist — the most #1s of any Latin artist.
Stay tuned for more from J Balvin coming soon.
