Just in time for Halloween: “Night of the Living Dead” remade into love story for Great American Canyon Band’s “You Were The One”
COMPOSED OF FOOTAGE EDITED FROM THE 1968 CULT CLASSIC HORROR FILM
“NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD”
Great American Canyon Band has released a new music video for their new single “You Were The One”, a moody and melodic pop rock ballad lead by the husband and wife harmony vocals of Paul and Kris Masson. Evoking the emotional intensity of Interpol and Mazzy Star, the track radiates with U2 like atmospheric guitars, a Joy Division’esque distorted bass line and driving drums straight from the Queens of the Stone Age songbook, creating a sound that is wholly familiar yet still uniquely their own. With the video composed entirely of original footage from the classic horror film “Night Of The Living Dead” they have unearthed a wholly new narrative from within the film, resurrecting a complicated love story from within the blood and gore of a Zombie ridden horror film. Evoking a David Lynch cinematic styling, the haunting song and scenes fit together serendipitously, creating a new voice within the “found footage” music video genre.
“You Were The One” comes on the heels of this Spring’s release of the song “Fade Away” which garnered a warm reception from fans and critics as well as national airplay via NPR’s World Cafe. The new music is their first to be released since their acclaimed 2016 debut album Only You Remain, which was praised by the likes of NPR, Stereogum, and The AV Club among many others.
