SHARES NEW SINGLE “INSOMNIA”
17-year-old singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer KALI announces their forthcoming EP Maltman and Effie due this summer via Nettwerk. The 6-track body of work unleashes a confident aggression and builds upon the potential they first showed with their debut EP CIRCLES released last year. Along with the announcement of Maltman and Effie, KALI shares their new single “Insomnia,” a fuzzy and frenetic song about the residual feelings left in the aftermath of a crumbling relationship. The release of “Insomnia” also coincides with KALI’s hometown show in LA tonight alongside Weyes Blood at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
Speaking candidly about the message of the new song, KALI says: “’Insomnia’ is probably the most emotionally and mentally taxing song I have made. I had fallen into a pit of anxiety and hopelessness that came with the bitter climax of a failing summer romance. I wrote ‘Insomnia’ as a reminder that I could still care for someone that I could not keep being in contact with due to the amount of pain and insecurity the nature of our interactions made me feel.”
Maltman and Effie includes the previously released singles “Addicted” and “Anybody Else,” and opens the next chapter of KALI’s emotionally-charged songwriting. Each track unfurls a new story of love found and lost with unflinching honesty, and finds them exploring new ground with their production alongside Tony Berg (Lorde, Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift). KALI’s second EP release packs a resounding punch and sets the stage for them as an artist with limitless potential.
