Genre-traversing singer/songwriter Kelela announces her new remix album, RAVE:N, The Remixes, a collection of re-worked and re-imagined songs from her critically acclaimed February 2023 album, Raven. To coincide with the announcement, Kelela shares the first single and accompanying vignette for Karen Nyame KG’s remix of “Contact”. The lo-fi vignette—the first of a series in collaboration with “Washed Away” and “Enough For Love” director Yasser Abubeker—depicts a silhouetted Kelela against a Tokyo streetscape.
Kelela’s ethereal vocals enveloped in KG’s warm synths and amapiano drums evokes the euphoria of late-night club romance. Every melody is infused with the singer’s vulnerability and lyrical prowess, creating a feeling of intimacy that you not only hear, but feel.
On the release of the Remix project and its first single, Kelela shares, “Sometimes I feel like I make original tracks just to experience the remix…I think about how something will be interpolated while I’m writing and recording. Each one is exhilarating to hear/add to and KG’s remix was no exception. It’s hitting supreme levels of sexy—makes me wanna seduce someone on the dance floor. I saw a tweet yesterday in response to the teaser for this song that said: ‘One thing bout you? You gon’ imagine then RE-imagine a body of work.’ and it made me feel so seen.”
Raven was met with glowing reviews upon release and has already been hailed one of the ‘Best Albums of 2023’ by Pitchfork, Billboard, Vulture, Variety and more. 2023 has been an incredible year for Kelela, with the release of Raven, celebrated by a performance of “Enough for Love” on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, and a successful sold-out North American and European, RAVE:N Tour in the spring.
