MIQUELA NOMINATED FOR TWO WEBBY AWARDS
Fans Can Vote Online to Help Miquela Win Internet’s Top Honor: vote.webbyawards.com
The internet’s most popular virtual musician, artist and activist Miquela has been nominated for two Webby Awards in the categories Best Video: Animation for “Speak Up” & Best Video: Variety & Reality for her ELLE “Song Association” interview. She has also received two Webby Honors for her Entertainment Tonight interview in the category Video: Variety & Reality, and “Speak Up” in the category Video: Music Video in the 25TH Annual Webby Awards.
The nominations come at an exciting time for Miquela as she and her creators at Brud, a next-gen entertainment and technology company, are releasing a five-part digital art series of NFTs that center around themes specific to Miquela. Earlier this month, part 2 of the series was made available for free once 1,500 collectors participated and was redeemed just 45 minutes after release. At the end of 2020, part 1 of this same series raised more than $80,000 for Black Girls Code.
“I’m proud to pioneer new formats of storytelling in the modern age,” said Miquela. “From my music videos to performances to interviews, I’m trying to reflect and represent the voices of my fans, honoring them and their commitment to a better world. Everything I’ve created, every story I tell, is thanks to them!”
As a nominee, Miquela is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by fans across the globe. From now until May 8th, Miquela fans can cast their votes at vote.webbyawards.com.
Winners will be announced on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, and honored in a star-studded, virtual show that will be available on demand. The celebration will be hosted by multi-talented actress, writer, podcaster, host and advocate Jameela Jamil. Winners will have an opportunity to deliver one of The Webby Awards’ famous 5-Word Speeches. Past 5-Word Speeches include: Steve Wilhite’s “It’s Pronounced “Jif” not ‘Gif’; NASA’s “Houston We Have A Webby”; and Solange’s “I Got Five On It.”
Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the Internet.
