p-rallel releases debut mixtape ‘Movement’ alongside video for ‘GO’ ft. DETO BLACK
Hot on the heels of his sold out fabric London takeover, West London’s p-rallel releases his debut mixtape Movement via 4ZA/Black Butter Records. The body of work features a host of p-rallel’s close-collaborators and new names including Kam-BU, Tamera, Toddla T and DETO BLACK who leads on vocals in today’s club-thumping focus track ‘Go’.
Movement is a fluid, full length collection of future-facing dancefloor cuts that spans the rich tapestry of music associated with UK dance culture. Lead single ‘It’s a LUNDUN Thing’ has gone viral online, racking up over 3M views on TikTok, 500K+ global streams and support across BBC R1, 1Xtra and 6Music. A bassweight reworking of the 1997 Scott Garcia original, it’s an example of p-rallel’s blueprint of refreshing electronic classics for a new generation of UK garage and 2-step heads.
Speaking on the track and the mixtape, p-rallel explains: “This mixtape is me being focused on the club and my DJ sets. Working towards a point where my DJ sets are mostly my own production. With the blend of UK Garage and House, it’s basically a short version of a p-rallel DJ set for you take anywhere. It’s brand new original tracks & my take on some classic dance records with amazing vocals form Tamera, Natanya, Jay Warner, Kam-Bu, BXKS & Lily McKenzie.”
At just 24 years old, p-rallel has achieved a status that far outweighs his years and he is one of the most well-respected names in West London’s inner music scene. This mixtape marks the start of a new legacy for him, inspired by the main idol of his formative years, his dad, who worked at the legendary Red Records in Brixton which was at the nucleus of London’s burgeoning garage/jungle scene back in the 90s/00s. p-rallel spent many Saturdays crate digging at the shop with his father (who was also a DJ on the club circuit at the time), which was instrumental in forming his musical taste and love of UKG.
The past 12 months have been p-rallel’s biggest yet, even by his prolific standards: he kicked off the year in the NME 100 list of emerging artists for 2023, was nominated for DJ of the Year at the GUAP Gala and has previously been crowned One To Watch by Notion, Wonderland and New Wave Magazine. A notorious party starter at heart, p-rallel has had a busy summer touring the festival circuit, shelling down sets for the likes of Glastonbury, NASS, El Dorado, Love Saves The Day, Boiler Room, Boomtown, and Boardmasters. p-rallel recently revived his Nevermind club concept with a sold out takeover of fabric London, and he also broadcasted a set for Boiler Room in partnership with Moncler during LFW earlier this year.
