Rae Sremmurd gets a head start on the new year with their new single “Torpedo,” out now via Eardrummer Records/Interscope Records. Accompanied by a celebratory video, the track effortlessly showcases Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi’s melodic flows and nimble wordplay — making it a fitting end to another blockbuster year. Listen HERE.
Over a sinister beat and layered vocal arrangements, Swae unleashes the song’s instantly catchy chorus. “Taking off with that cash like torpedo,” he spits. “And your pockets too tight, just like a Speedo.” A perfect blend of swagger and irreverence, the addictive new single finds the Tupelo natives elevating a feel-good club anthem with their signature Southern flavor and knack for quotable lyrics.
“Torpedo” is accompanied by a dizzying video, which boasts insane whips, gem-covered jewelry, and non-stop partying. The track follows “Community Dick” and “Denial” — the latter marking the brothers’ first song together in more than four years. Prior to that, Rae Sremmurd had established themselves as the preeminent melodicists in hip-hop, racking up hit singles from the moment they landed with 2014’s “No Flex Zone.”
Their first two albums, 2015’s SremmLife and the following year’s SremmLife 2, were each certified Platinum, and the latter spawned the group’s first No. 1 hit, the Gucci Mane-assisted “Black Beatles.” SR3MM, from 2018, was groundbreaking in its own way, a triple-disc effort that saw each brother get his own LP’s worth of space to work solo, before tying them back together.
Their long-awaited followup, Sremm4Life, is expected soon. And with undeniable bangers like “Torpedo,” it promises to be one of 2023’s hottest releases.
