Switchfoot in Atlanta with Tyson Motsenbocker and Colony House

Switchfoot had announced late last year that they would be touring in 2019 to support the release of their latest album Native Tongue, which was made available January 18th, 2019. The Tabernacle located in Atlanta, Ga was their third stop of the tour. Switchfoot partnered with supporting acts, Tyson Motsenbocker and Colony House. Native Tongue is the bands 11th studio album. The front man Jon Forman said “These are polarizing times, where the loudest voice is often the voice of anger or fear,” Foreman said. “This album is an attempt to sing that hope into life. To bring a group of diverse songs under one common banner. Hatred is not your native language.”

The show took place at the Tabernacle in the heart of downtown Atlanta near Centennial Olympic Park. This building was converted in to a concert venue in 1996 when it had been vacant since the 80s when is was formally a church. The venue offers a very intimate feel with guest and performers and is loved by many in Atlanta, because it host concerts and shows of all kinds.

The first act of the night was Tyson Motsenbocker who played a solo acoustic session for the fans attending. Tyson released his first EP in 2010, Until it Lands, a delicate acoustic sound, smooth, story telling like songs. Tysons Lyrics were melancholy and very reflective. He also told the crowd he enjoyed leading his church in worship.

The second act was played by Colony House. Colony House is a trio of brothers from Franklin Tennessee which was formed in 2009. They are a indie alt-rock band who’s influences include U2 and Cold War Kids. Their performance electrified the audience and pumped them up for the Following performance of Switchfoot. They played songs from their latest album Only the Lonely and When I was Younger.

The headliner Switchfoot took the stage at 9PM and began with Let it Happen. The stage was well lit with a large LCD backdrop streaming video in accordance to the songs they played. The fans were so excited to see Switchfoot back in action and they did not fail to impress. When they started the first song the stage was dark and they didn’t waste any time with introductions since the fans that were there didn’t need such an introduction. Then light show was incredible and the entire band was full of energy and entertainment. The lead singer Jon Forman loves his fans and always wants to get as close as can to them, during the performance. As I glanced behind me I witnessed several fans in tears at the sheer joy of the performance and seeing Jon back on stage with the band. The main set list was an impressive 15 songs with a 3 song encore. I highly recommend seeing this show if you can and the Tabernacle was the perfect venue with exceptionally friendly staff.
