Normani’s debut solo single with Khalid ‘Love Lies’ surpasses 200M streams on Spotify

Khalid and Normani‘s ‘Love Lies‘ has amazingly surpassed 200 million streams on Spotify.

‘Love Lies’ was released commercially for digital download through RCA Records this year on February 14 as the second single from the movie soundtrack for Love, Simon.

It is Normani’s debut solo single. It entered at number 43 on the Bilboard Hot 100, opening with 22,000 downloads and 11.7 million streams in its first week. It also scored the highest first-week position for a debut single by a girl group member.

The duo gave a sultry performance of the single on ‘The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon‘ last month on April 10 (see below).

Kanye West released new song defending his praise For Trump ‘Ye vs. the People’

It’s been at least several hours since we’ve written about Kanye West in this 17th week of the Year of Our Lord 2018, which means there is another development in the Yeezus-turned-#MAGA hat-loving-Trump-supporter saga to dissect.

This time, the rapper-mogul-cultural provocateur dropped “Ye vs. the People,” his second song to be released since he began tweeting enthusiastically in support of President Trump last week, sending both his longtime fans and detractors into a frenzy.

The track was played for the first time Friday night on Power 106, a Los Angeles hip-hop radio station, and features Kanye and the rapper T.I. engaged in a back-and-forth political debate. Presumably, T.I. represents “the People” as he answers “Ye,” who puts to verse more or less what he had been tweeting about for the last several days. (It’s unclear what the Power 106 DJs, who periodically shout and blow air horns over the track, are supposed to represent.)

Kanye opens with a nod to his onetime support of President Barack Obama and a reference to his own rumored presidential ambitions:

I know Obama was Heaven-sent/ But ever since Trump won, it proved that I could be president

T.I. responds:

Yeah you can, at what cost, though? Don’t that go against the teachings that Ye taught for?

The two battle it out, couplet by couplet, touching on everything from police brutality to Kanye’s recent flaunting of his signature red “Make America Great Again” cap, autographed by Trump. Throughout, there are enough open-ended questions (“Is it better if I rap about crack? Huh? ‘Cause it’s cultural?”) to make Socrates proud.

“You just readin’ the headlines, you don’t see the fine print/ You on some choosin’-side s—, I’m on some unified s—,” Kanye raps.

T.I. responds: “It’s bigger than your selfish agenda/ If you election ain’t gon’ stop police from murderin’ n—-s.”

Kanye: “Bruh, I never ever stopped fightin’ for the people/ Actually wearin’ the hat’ll show people that we equal.”

The lyrics eventually move on from couplets to longer verses in which each rapper makes his case. Much as he had done in a text debate with John Legend, Kanye once again defended himself by saying he was simply engaging in “free thought” and encouraging “new ideas,” while T.I. encouraged him to reconsider, given his influence.

YE:

I feel an obligation to show people new ideas
And if you wanna hear ’em, there go two right here

Make America Great Again had a negative reception

I took it, wore it, rocked it, gave it a new direction

Added empathy, care and love and affection

And y’all simply questionin’ my methods

T.I.:

What you willin’ to lose for the point to be proved?

This shit is stubborn, selfish, bullheaded, even for you

You wore a dusty-a– hat to represent the same views

As white supremacy, man, we expect better from you

Not just to be let down when we depend on you, homie

That’s why it’s important to know what direction you’re goin’ now

To clear up any confusion, “Ye vs. the People” is not the same as “Lift Yourself,” a track Kanye had dropped hours earlier that was seen as a coded response to Hot 97 radio station DJ Ebro Darden, a longtime friend of West’s who said he had called the rapper and tried to intervene in the midst of his bizarre tweetstorms last week.

Confused? No matter. All you need to know is that the upbeat ditty “Lift Yourself” included such head-scratching lyrics as:

Poopy-di scoop

Scoop-diddy-whoop

Whoop-di-scoop-di-poop

Poop-di-scoopty

Scoopty-whoop

Whoopity-scoop, whoop-poop

Poop-Diddy, whoop-scoop

Poop, poop

Scoop-diddy-whoop

Whoop-diddy-scoop

Whoop-diddy-scoop, poop

Travis Barker & Trippie Redd Assist Paris on ‘One Night In Paris’ EP

PARIS RELEASES EP

ONE NIGHT IN PARIS

Features from Travis Barker & Trippie Redd

Touring with Post Malone & 21 Savage

Today, buzzing new artist Paris released his highly-anticipated debut EP, One Night In Paris. The excitement comes shortly after Paris announced his tour with rap superstars, Post Malone and 21 Savage. After working with celebrated hip-hop star, Gunna for “Po’ed Up,” the California native has impressively acquired features from Blink-182’s legendary drummer, Travis Barker and rap phenomenon Trippie Redd.

One Night in Paris is an 8-track body of work full of heartbreak, love, and unconstrained self expression. The robust production and lyrics highlight Paris’s eccentric energy and uncensored emotion.

One of the EP’s standout tracks, “Crushin” merges Travis Barker’s prodigious drums and Paris’s commanding vocals for a nostalgic melody that reminisces over failed relationships. Also, adding to the project, is one of hip-hop’s most exciting new artists, Trippie Redd on the lead single, “Gone.” Both Paris and Trippie harmoniously cry through their admission of self sabotage and complacency with heartache.

One Night in Paris is an revealing body of work that give new listeners a look into the heart of the cellist and former firefighter. Named after The Cure’s album, Paris, Paris Vasquez has found his place in music with a singular sound that fuses the most beautiful elements of both hip-hop and rock. Paris’s splash onto the music scene has been recognized by Adam22’s No Jumper, Highsnobiety, XXL, Hot New Hip-Hop, Revolt TV, Hip-Hop DX, and Elevator Mag. Unapologetically frantic and theatrical, Paris finds comfort in all genres of music and doesn’t allow society’s binary expectations affect his sense of style.

Listen to the One Night in Paris EP and be sure to catch Paris on his nation wide tour with Post Malone and 21 Savage, which kicks off this Thursday. There’s definitely more to come from the extraordinary artist, Paris.

Lil Wayne stars in new Bumbu commercial!

Lil Wayne stars in a hilarious new commercial for Bumbu, a premium craft rum from Barbados.

It’s Wayne’s first major commercial since 2016, when his appearances in unorthodox ads for Apartments.com and Samsung went viral.

The Bumbu ad sees Lil Wayne partying with both beautiful women and goats – a visual pun on G.O.A.T., or “Greatest of All Time” – a moniker frequently used for the multi-platinum selling Wayne. The party kicks into high gear when Wayne asks someone to “pass the Bumbu,” which as the ad tells us, is the G.O.A.T. among the world’s best rums.

“Bumbu is a totally different kind of drink,” says Lil Wayne. “I fell in love with the bottle and the taste the first time I tried it. Now it’s Bumbu everywhere – in the studio, parties, the VIP. All my people are on this Bumbu now.”

Lil Wayne sports a “Bumbu Krewe” jacket – championing his elite “krewe” of rappers and tastemakers who drink and support Bumbu, a dark rum dramatically packaged in a stout glass bottle with an oversized cork and gleaming metal “X” icon.

The commercial is directed by Eif Rivera, whose resume of music videos includes Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent, Nas, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne. It was written in-house by Bumbu’s creative team.

Brett Berish, CEO of Sovereign Brands, owner of Bumbu, says: “Bumbu is a small-batch, limited production rum and we’ve been fortunate to have more demand than supply since it was first released. Lil Wayne was one of the first people to see it and became one of our earliest supporters. As Bumbu has grown and we’ve been able to bring it to new places around the world, making a video with Wayne was a fun and easy choice for us. It’s a perfect way to kick off our first-ever marketing campaign for this wonderful brand.”

Adds Wayne, “Bumbu listens to the streets. You have to. Like my businesses, there’s no outside agency speaking for Bumbu. This was a raw idea that made us laugh out loud. We had fun doing it. And that’s really what separates Bumbu as an independent company….probably why we get along so well!”

Meek Mill released from prison

Meek Mill has been released from prison.

After spending nearly five months incarcerated after a controversial sentence of two to four years in prison for violating probation, the Philadelphia rapper was out and en route to a basketball game on Tuesday evening. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered an immediate release for Mill earlier in the day, directing the judge to release him on “unsecured bail.”

“I’d like to thank God, my family, my friends, my attorneys, my team at Roc Nation including JAY-Z, Desiree Perez, my good friend Michael Rubin, my fans, The Pennsylvania Supreme Court and all my public advocates for their love, support and encouragement during this difficult time,” the rapper, whose full name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, said in a statement obtained by CNN. “While the past five months have been a nightmare, the prayers, visits, calls, letters and rallies have helped me stay positive.”

Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin, a vocal supporter of Mill, shared an Instagram photo of Mill on the way to a 76ers game on Tuesday night.

Mill received a two-to-four year prison sentence in November for violating probation on a 2008 gun and drug case. (He was arrested in 2017 after being involved in a fight and arrested again later for popping wheelies on a dirt bike.) Judge Genece Brinkley cited a failed drug test and the rapper’s noncompliance with a court order restricting his travel in her sentencing order.

Earlier this month, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office recommended a new trial for Mill. But after a judge denied Mill bail, his plea was moved to the state’s Supreme Court.

The case has sparked outrage from criminal justice reform activists. Mill received widespread support from notable artists and athletes, including Colin Kapernick, rappers Jay-Z, T.I. and Rick Ross, New England Patirots owner Robert Kraft, comedian Kevin Hart and the 76ers’ Rubin.

“I think what the support did is bring the overall problem of the criminal justice reform that’s needed to light,” Rubin told CNN in an interview Tuesday. “There’s so many other people that have been wrongfully convicted.”

Mill thanked the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office for its support.

“To the Philly District Attorney’s office, I’m grateful for your commitment to justice. I understand that many people of color across the country don’t have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues,” he tweeted. “In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career.”
