Dua and Calvin eye fifth week at Number 1 while Childish Gambino and Shawn Mendes advance on Top 10

Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris dance collaboration One Kiss is currently looking good for a potential fifth week at the top of the Official Singles Chart, but with Ariana Grande climbing back up one place in today’s Official Chart Update with No Tears Left To Cry, will there be an upset when the chart is announced on Friday?

New entries and high climbers

Canadian singer Shawn Mendes looks nailed on for a fourth Top 10, as In My Blood aims for a new peak, zooming fourteen slots to 7 after its acoustic version was released, and David Guetta and Sia’s Flames has a shot at going Top 10 for the first time, rising two places to 9.

With their fifth studio album Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino looking set to take the Number 1 album spot this Friday, Arctic Monkeys’ tracks make an impact on the Official Singles Chart too, with Four Out of Five (12), Star Treatment (13), and One Point Perspective (17) all making a Top 20 showing at this stage.

Girls, Rita Ora’s collaboration with Cardi B, Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX, starts at 18, and there could be a 13th Top 40 for Selena Gomez on the way – Back to You is new at 37.

Outside of the Top 40, Netta, the Eurovision winner from Israel, currently occupies Number 57 with Toy, and runner-up Eleni Foureira of Cyprus is at Number 72 with Fuego.

Kanye West released new song defending his praise For Trump ‘Ye vs. the People’

It’s been at least several hours since we’ve written about Kanye West in this 17th week of the Year of Our Lord 2018, which means there is another development in the Yeezus-turned-#MAGA hat-loving-Trump-supporter saga to dissect.

This time, the rapper-mogul-cultural provocateur dropped “Ye vs. the People,” his second song to be released since he began tweeting enthusiastically in support of President Trump last week, sending both his longtime fans and detractors into a frenzy.

The track was played for the first time Friday night on Power 106, a Los Angeles hip-hop radio station, and features Kanye and the rapper T.I. engaged in a back-and-forth political debate. Presumably, T.I. represents “the People” as he answers “Ye,” who puts to verse more or less what he had been tweeting about for the last several days. (It’s unclear what the Power 106 DJs, who periodically shout and blow air horns over the track, are supposed to represent.)

Kanye opens with a nod to his onetime support of President Barack Obama and a reference to his own rumored presidential ambitions:

I know Obama was Heaven-sent/ But ever since Trump won, it proved that I could be president

T.I. responds:

Yeah you can, at what cost, though? Don’t that go against the teachings that Ye taught for?

The two battle it out, couplet by couplet, touching on everything from police brutality to Kanye’s recent flaunting of his signature red “Make America Great Again” cap, autographed by Trump. Throughout, there are enough open-ended questions (“Is it better if I rap about crack? Huh? ‘Cause it’s cultural?”) to make Socrates proud.

“You just readin’ the headlines, you don’t see the fine print/ You on some choosin’-side s—, I’m on some unified s—,” Kanye raps.

T.I. responds: “It’s bigger than your selfish agenda/ If you election ain’t gon’ stop police from murderin’ n—-s.”

Kanye: “Bruh, I never ever stopped fightin’ for the people/ Actually wearin’ the hat’ll show people that we equal.”

The lyrics eventually move on from couplets to longer verses in which each rapper makes his case. Much as he had done in a text debate with John Legend, Kanye once again defended himself by saying he was simply engaging in “free thought” and encouraging “new ideas,” while T.I. encouraged him to reconsider, given his influence.

YE:

I feel an obligation to show people new ideas
And if you wanna hear ’em, there go two right here

Make America Great Again had a negative reception

I took it, wore it, rocked it, gave it a new direction

Added empathy, care and love and affection

And y’all simply questionin’ my methods

T.I.:

What you willin’ to lose for the point to be proved?

This shit is stubborn, selfish, bullheaded, even for you

You wore a dusty-a– hat to represent the same views

As white supremacy, man, we expect better from you

Not just to be let down when we depend on you, homie

That’s why it’s important to know what direction you’re goin’ now

To clear up any confusion, “Ye vs. the People” is not the same as “Lift Yourself,” a track Kanye had dropped hours earlier that was seen as a coded response to Hot 97 radio station DJ Ebro Darden, a longtime friend of West’s who said he had called the rapper and tried to intervene in the midst of his bizarre tweetstorms last week.

Confused? No matter. All you need to know is that the upbeat ditty “Lift Yourself” included such head-scratching lyrics as:

Poopy-di scoop

Scoop-diddy-whoop

Whoop-di-scoop-di-poop

Poop-di-scoopty

Scoopty-whoop

Whoopity-scoop, whoop-poop

Poop-Diddy, whoop-scoop

Poop, poop

Scoop-diddy-whoop

Whoop-diddy-scoop

Whoop-diddy-scoop, poop

Remy Ma And A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Are In Good “Company” with their new record

Remy Ma continues to work on her forthcoming album 7 Winters & 6 Summers. As fans await the forthcoming effort, today (April 26), Remy joined forces with her fellow Boogie Down Bronx-bred A Boogie wit da Hoodie for a new record titled, “Company.”

Over snares and kicks, the mother and wife claims her independence as well as her knack for securing the money bag.

“Baby, what you want from me?/I been gettin’ money, I could really put you on your feet/I was gettin’ one visit, two phone calls, three showers a week/Now I get like 90K for my voice just to touch the beat, but yo

I will never ask you what you got for me/I just want some sloppy, every couple days I want the D/I don’t need no E, I got some M’s and now I got a G/Can’t explain the nueva, boy, it’s somethin’ you gotta see, but yeah,” raps Remy.

As expected, Boogie strong-arms the song’s melodious hook.

Aside from Remy Ma’ rap career, she is also a Love & Hip-Hop reality-television star. Over the holidays, the 37-year-old spoke with VIBE about her and her husband’s Papoose hour-long VH1 Special ‘Remy & Papoose: A Merry Mackie Holiday.’

“It is a little different because when we are filming with “Love and Hip Hop,” it is [based on] specific aspects of our lives. We are a little more cautious with [filming]. As opposed to when it is your situation. We both have co-executive [producer] credits on “Remy & Papoose: A Merry Mackie Holiday.” You get to see a different dynamic between us, and our interaction with our family.”

She also spoke about balancing a blended family.

“It is difficult because everybody has their boundaries. It [will be] different when we have our own child together. We try our best to be [great] parents to all of our children… [and treat them] the same way. But, we still have to have that little inkling in the back of our minds, to be thoughtful. There are other parents that we have to respect. And, then the kids! I don’t want them to feel like they can try and take advantage or play us… because they will if you allow them to.”

Pregnant Cardi B Slays ‘La Modelo’ In One of Her Last Performances Before Maternity Leave

Written By | Liz Calvario

Cardi B brought the party to the 2018 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

The 25-year-old pregnant rapper took the stage during the award’s ceremony in Las Vegas on Thursday night to perform the Spanglish single “La Modelo” with Latin artist Ozuna. Cardi stepped out in a blush-colored body-hugging dress with pink sequin sleeves, which she paired with nude platform heels.

“Make sure you all to tune in to my performance with my good old friend,” Cardi shared on Instagram before her sizzling performance. “I don’t know if you want it to be a surprise. When I get there, I’m going to ask him.”

Prior to taking the stage, Cardi shared clips of her with her good pal Quavo, who also performed with Karol G, in the audience.

After the show, the “Bodak Yellow” singer thanked everyone for their support and shared that her fiance, Offset, had also attended the show to watch her perform.

On Wednesday, the expecting mother announced that she was taking a break from performing so she could focus on herself and her baby-to-be.

“So I just wanted to make this a little clear and everything. Broccoli Fest will be my last performance for a little while,” she shared. “Shortie keep growing. I be looking like I be moving and everything, but in reality, a b**ch barely can breathe! I want to thank y’all for understanding. I’ll be back for the Bruno Mars tour and everything.”

Fears for Kanye’s health emerge after Scooter Braun’s firing

Written By | Mara Siegler, Oli Coleman and Carlos Greer

Kanye West canceled 21 tour dates in 2016 after suffering a “nervous breakdown,” but there are new fears for his health after he abruptly fired manager Scooter Braun and a “friend” claimed West had been addicted to opioids.

On Monday, Hot 97 host Ebro Darden told listeners that he had spoken with West this weekend, and West allegedly told him, “Nobody really showed love for me when I was addicted to opioids and in the hospital.”

If West had actually canceled the tour due to drug use, it could have legal ramifications.

The rapper filed a 2017 $10 million lawsuit against insurers Lloyd’s of London, claiming they were refusing to pay for his lost dates and citing his marijuana use as an excuse.

The insurer finally caved in and agreed to pay most of what was due to cover the lost tour dates.

Lawyers for Lloyd’s didn’t return calls for comment Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a source close to West tells Page Six they were “doubtful” he was hospitalized for opioid use and “disappointed” Darden made those claims on-air.

West sources had said at the time of the 2016 breakdown that it was due to the death of his mom, the stress of juggling his fashion line and the tour, and acute sleeplessness and paranoia.

West dramatically just fired Braun and others in his inner circle — despite having just announced five new albums on Twitter — with sources spreading rumors online that those cast out were “very worried for Yeezy’s mental health” and that he could be suffering from “another episode.”

West hired Braun, who also reps Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, a couple of years ago.

He took a larger role in March after West’s longtime manager Izvor “Izzy” Zivkovic stepped down.

While Braun and a rep for West didn’t comment, the first source explained, “Kanye has been saying he wants to bring all representation in-house, and that extends to his managers. His mentality is, ‘I can’t be someone’s client. I have to represent myself.’ He’s clearing house. Scooter remains in an advisory role.”

Since returning to Twitter, West has been raising eyebrows with a series of peculiar tweets.

On Tuesday he wrote, “to be great is to be misunderstood” as well as “dragon 🐉energy/Natural born leaders/Very instinctive/Great foresight.”

He also drew some ire by praising a noted right-wing commentator, saying, “I love the way Candace Owens thinks.”

Meek Mill released from prison

Meek Mill has been released from prison.

After spending nearly five months incarcerated after a controversial sentence of two to four years in prison for violating probation, the Philadelphia rapper was out and en route to a basketball game on Tuesday evening. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered an immediate release for Mill earlier in the day, directing the judge to release him on “unsecured bail.”

“I’d like to thank God, my family, my friends, my attorneys, my team at Roc Nation including JAY-Z, Desiree Perez, my good friend Michael Rubin, my fans, The Pennsylvania Supreme Court and all my public advocates for their love, support and encouragement during this difficult time,” the rapper, whose full name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, said in a statement obtained by CNN. “While the past five months have been a nightmare, the prayers, visits, calls, letters and rallies have helped me stay positive.”

Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin, a vocal supporter of Mill, shared an Instagram photo of Mill on the way to a 76ers game on Tuesday night.

Mill received a two-to-four year prison sentence in November for violating probation on a 2008 gun and drug case. (He was arrested in 2017 after being involved in a fight and arrested again later for popping wheelies on a dirt bike.) Judge Genece Brinkley cited a failed drug test and the rapper’s noncompliance with a court order restricting his travel in her sentencing order.

Earlier this month, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office recommended a new trial for Mill. But after a judge denied Mill bail, his plea was moved to the state’s Supreme Court.

The case has sparked outrage from criminal justice reform activists. Mill received widespread support from notable artists and athletes, including Colin Kapernick, rappers Jay-Z, T.I. and Rick Ross, New England Patirots owner Robert Kraft, comedian Kevin Hart and the 76ers’ Rubin.

“I think what the support did is bring the overall problem of the criminal justice reform that’s needed to light,” Rubin told CNN in an interview Tuesday. “There’s so many other people that have been wrongfully convicted.”

Mill thanked the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office for its support.

“To the Philly District Attorney’s office, I’m grateful for your commitment to justice. I understand that many people of color across the country don’t have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues,” he tweeted. “In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career.”
