Texas hip-hop artist debuted his brand new visual for his latest single “Free Bird.” After debuting the single release audio just last week, directed by Damian Fyffe, the new video captures two women rapping Johnny’s song bar for bar in a classic Cadillac while the rapper rides along on the hood freely through the city of Texas. The visual provides fans an immersive look into his hometown as the video flickers between Houston natives rapping to his song on the street, young protégés joining Johnny at a carwash, to elegant panoramic shots of his neighborhood. The video closes with a symbolic ethereal shot of a young girl releasing a dove into the sky.
The new single and video serves as a follow up to the Beaumont artist’s recently released spiritual single, “On God” which has accumulated over 1.9M views to date.
The southern artist has already caught the attention and public co-signs of music and pop culture icons such as Drake and Kanye West who have recognized his adept cross-genre fusion of hip-hop, R&B and tones of reggae.
Johnny’s steady grind of singles and project streams over the years culminated in his debut project To The World in 2021. Throughout the project, he showcases his versatility as an artist, delivering bars and fan favorites “Thuggin’ By My Lonely” and “Man in the Mirror.” The project also features popular song, “Letters from Itachi” – inspired by one of the recording artist’s favorite anime shows, Naruto.
