Two Atlanta United players called-up for international duty

Martinez, Williams set to join national teams for upcoming friendlies

ATLANTA  – Atlanta United announced today that two players have received international call-ups for the upcoming FIFA window. Josef Martinez (Venezuela) and Romario Williams (Jamaica) have each been called-up to represent their respective senior national teams for matches from Sept. 7-11.

Martinez, 25, has broken multiple MLS records this season, highlighted by scoring his 28th goal against Orlando City SC on Aug. 24, which broke the league’s single-season record for goals in a season. Overall in 2018, he’s scored 28 goals in 27 games and had a nine-game scoring streak snapped against D.C. United on Sunday. Martinez has scored in 13 of his last 15 matches for a total of 20 goals. With the Venezuelan National Team, Martinez has 42 career appearances and has scored nine goals, including five in World Cup Qualification. Venezuela plays Colombia in Miami, Fla. on Friday, Sept. 7 and travels to Panama on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Williams, 24, has made 11 career appearances with the Jamaican National Team, scoring twice. He last appeared for the Reggae Boyz on March 24, 2018, starting and playing 56 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Antigua and Barbuda. With Atlanta in 2018, Williams has appeared in 15 games and scored one goal. Jamaica will play Ecuador at Red Bull Arena on Friday, Sept. 7.

With the upcoming international window, Atlanta United (16-5-6, 54 points) is off until Saturday, Sept. 15 when it travels to play Colorado Rapids (3:30 p.m. EST, UniMas, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game).
