English gothic-rock band The Sisters of Mercy performed at Boston’s Big Night Live on the last day of May for their first US tour in nearly 15 years. Andrew Eldritch — frontman of the band since its start in 1980 — was accompanied by guitarists and vocalists Ben Christo and Dylan Smith.

Before the start of the show, fans donned their all-black attire and quickly filled the 2,000-capacity venue. First, the opening band, A Primitive Evolution, graced the stage with an exhilarating presence and lively alternative rock. About an hour later as the neon lights illuminated the stage once again, a palpable sense of anticipation filled the air. The legendary Sisters of Mercy were about to take the stage for a night that would transport us back to the 1980s.

From the very beginning, it was evident that The Sisters of Mercy had lost none of their intensity or musical prowess over the years. The wall of sound created by the guitars of Ben Christo and Dylan Smith, coupled with the pulsating basslines of Doktor Avalanche, created an immersive sonic experience that enveloped the audience in a sea of gothic passion.

One of the highlights of the night was their performance of “Temple of Love,” a beloved anthem that had the entire crowd singing along. Eldritch’s deep and commanding vocals soared through the venue, drawing us deeper into the dark and poetic lyrics that have resonated with fans for decades. The chemistry between the band members was palpable, as they effortlessly navigated through the intricate musical arrangements with precision and passion.

The stage production enhanced the overall atmosphere, with atmospheric lighting and smoke adding to the mystique of the performance. The visual elements combined with the music to create a fully immersive experience that transported the audience back in time to the band’s heyday.

Despite this being their first time back in Massachusetts since 2008, The Sisters of Mercy brought thousands of fans together for a lively night of music. The band’s passion for love and life was clearly reflected in both their charismatic performance, and in their loyal fanbase that came to support them at Boston’s Big Night Live.
