Goldie Releases The Rufige Files, New Documentary Charting His Rufige Kru Career
Pioneering UK drum and bass artist Goldie now unveils The Rufige Files — a new feature-length documentary delving into the history, sound and ethos behind his seminal Rufige Kru moniker.
Told through the perspectives of Goldie and Submotive, with guest appearances from Marc Mac, Photek, dBridge and Heist
Produced and directed by Goldie, Army Of Few and London Records, the feature length documentary charts Rufige Kru’s career, sound, visual identity – from the first Rufige Kru EP ‘Dark Rider’ on Reinforced Records and the track ‘Terminator’, which is referenced in the film as a defining statement of the Rufige sound.
The documentary also examines the ‘Alpha Omega’ project – released as an acclaimed full length album last year and nominated for DJ Mag’s Best Album of the Year – which involved revisiting original 1990s Digital Audio Tapes (DATs) to locate and reuse archival samples in order to reconstruct elements of the original Rufige sonic identity.
Central to the project is the contrast between “light and the dark”, a duality referenced throughout the catalogue and cited by Goldiein the documentary as influenced by his days as a graffiti writer, and continues to be a central theme in Rufige Kru’s releases, including most recently, the ‘Metal Giants’ EP.

Goldie has been active in urban arts for 33 years. In the ‘The Rufige Files’ film, he states that his motivation for making music is not driven by metrics such as plays or online engagement, but by the process itself. He also discusses the role of yoga in sustaining his current level of activity, describing it as a necessary and humbling practice.
Submotive and Goldie first met at a Sun and Bass Festival afterparty around 2012. Following that meeting, Goldie invited Submotive to engineer sessions, leading to collaborative work in Thailand beginning in 2016. Submotive has since contributed to Goldie’s ‘Journeyman’ album and the ‘Subjective’ projects.
