Royal Blood made a stop during their 10th Anniversary Tour in Berlin at Huxley’s to celebrate a decade of their debut album.
They kicked off with a powerful performance of “Out of the Black” from their debut album, radiating an infectious energy and creating a vibrant atmosphere. Even with the European Championship and England’s semi-final match happening concurrently, the venue was filled to capacity. Although they are only a duo, their stage presence was so commanding that it seemed to occupy the entire room. The majority of the audience was present from the beginning, actively participating by singing and swaying to the catchy rhythms, enhanced by a mesmerizing light show.
They maintained their momentum with performances of “Come on Over” and “Figure it Out”. The atmosphere was further electrified when drummer Ben Thatcher leaped into the crowd at the start of the show. The first part of the evening was dedicated to their debut album, which they played in its entirety. The latter half featured a variety of hits from their other albums, including crowd favorites like “Mountains at Midnight” from their latest album, Back to the Water Below, as well as “Trouble’s Coming” and “Typhoons”. These performances sustained the high energy throughout the evening, with the resonating guitar and drum beats propelling the crowd forward and allowing for minimal breaks.
The setlist showed off Kerr and Thatcher’s ability to write hit after hit, with their fusion of heavy riffs and driving drums, as well as blues licks, infectious rhythms and anthemic choruses. It also showed the evolution of Royal Blood’s sound, especially from the first two albums to Typhoons. The addition of Darren James for live performances with backing vocals and on the keyboard helped upraise a lot of the songs. The set ended with “Lights Out“ another fan-favorite, taken from their second studio album How Did We Go So Dark?, which heralded the end of the evening. Coming back on the stage, it was time for the encore, which consisted of “Limbo“, as tour debut, and “How Did We Get So Dark?“, giving the fans one last chance to give it all and sing and stomp along again.
