ALEX LUNA EARNS HIS FIRST LATIN GRAMMY® NOMINATION FOR BEST NEW ARTIST
Alex Luna received his first Latin GRAMMY® nomination this Wednesday. The young Mexican singer-songwriter and producer appears among the ten nominees for Best New Artist, one of the ceremony’s most important categories.
Luna arrives at the awards thanks to his debut album FUTURALGIA. On this eleven-track album, the singer-songwriter explores emotional limbo in an intimate journey through unfinished love and life stories.
This category is one of the most special among the 80 awarded by The Latin Recording Academy, as it is the only one in which an artist can be nominated just once in their career. The nominations were announced this morning through a live broadcast on the Latin GRAMMY® social media and YouTube channels.
“I still haven’t processed it, this feels like a dream. Always pursue your dreams seriously, work hard on them, protect them, and listen to yourselves. I was very afraid of dedicating myself to music, I thought it was something impossible, and believe me, we are the ones who create our own reality. You are capable of EVERYTHING, with hard work, passion, and a lot of love for life. This is just one step—now it’s time to work three times harder, because we’re going to win,” says Alex.
Luna wrote FUTURALGIA alongside a robust group of talented composers and producers, who worked with the performer to convey the production’s sonic aesthetic.
The album, recorded between 5020 Studios in Mexico City and the performer’s room in Cancun, is a melodic journey through pop, pop/rock, lo-fi sonorities and even regional Mexican music, all fused with weightless electronic elements and house rhythms that transmit the essence of a future that only exists in dreams.
At just 20 years old, Alex managed to make a name for himself, catching the attention of multi-platinum songwriter Édgar Barrera, who signed him to his young record label Borderkid Records, BorderKid Management & Publishing.
As a lyricist, Luna’s talent has captured the attention of artists like Iván Cornejo, Danny Lux, Becky G, Carin Leon, Grupo Frontera and Christian Nodal, who have trusted his pen to bring their songs to life.
