Grammy-nominated and 5x Latin Grammy-nominated Ángela Aguilar dazzled over 20,000 attendees during two back-to-back headlining shows at the legendary Hollywood Bowl this past weekend. Marking a historic run, the two shows celebrated the spectacular world of Mexican music that has now reached all corners of the world and has long been championed by the iconic Aguilar family, featuring captivating performances from Pepe Aguilar and Leonardo Aguilar as they delivered some of Mexican music’s biggest hits – images below. “The Hollywood Bowl […] ended up being the perfect place for this show […] not only celebrated Mexican music, but also showcased Aguilar’s voice: living heritage”, said Los Angeles Times

Ángela delivered one of the night’s most striking moments with a rousing presentation supporting immigrants and standing against the ICE raids in her hometown of Los Angeles, CA. She dedicated a moving rendition of the beloved Mexican classic “Cielito Lindo” to immigrants and displayed a series of gripping images of recent ICE raids across the arches of the legendary venue. She closed out the performance with a moving speech urging all to stand in solidarity with immigrants and fight for their protection, dignity, and humanity. She closed it out moment by displaying the line “Solo El Pueblo Salva El Pueblo” that translated to “Only the People Save the People”, the tag phrase for the non-profit organization on the frontlines of the issue, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), and received a standing ovation – see full speech below.

The presentation is part of Ángela’s longstanding relationship with NDLON who she has been working closely with to create moments of visibility and support for the issue through her musical work, well before the ICE raids.

As the biggest female artist in regional Mexican music with a colossal near 7 billion total global streams under her belt who is Mexican-American born in Los Angeles, the issue is a one that is deeply important to Ángela and one she will continue to spotlight with her tremendous platform and art.

Additionally, she performed her hit track “Que Agonía” which sits in over 1 billion streams on YouTube alone and her song “Lágrimas En Mi Garganta” from her critically acclaimed new album Nadie Se Va Como Llegó. She also performed breathtaking renditions of beloved landmark Mexican songs such as “La Malagueña,” “La Llorona,” and a medley of songs belonging to the revered Mexican singer, Flor Silvestre. She closed out the night with joint performances of “La Chancla,” “El Chivo” and “Puño de Tierra” with Pepe and Leonardo. The set showcased her extraordinary vocal prowess as she captured the hearts of all in attendance, solidifying her position as one of the most essential singers today.

Ángela will be embarking on her new headlining US Libre Corazón Tour this October, marking her first headline tour in over two years. She will be bringing her striking new Nadie Se Va Cómo Llegó album to life for the first time of which she kicked off with these two historic Hollywood Bowl shows – full tour dates below. ÁNGELA’S SPEECH AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL:

“I wouldn’t like to lose the opportunity of being on this stage without telling my truth. And for me, maybe some other artists don’t speak about it because they don’t see the value in it, but I want to represent the Mexican-Americans, I want to say that what’s going on to our people is not okay, and I don’t support it. I won’t stand it.

I was born in Los Angeles, and my father said something yesterday, he said that he was so proud of being in the United States, he was proud of being a Mexican-American, a legal Mexican American, and for me if I could say something that I have learned in these past months is that only the people can save the people. So we need to speak, we need to go out to the streets, we need to keep pushing for our rights because it’s not right that families are being torn apart, it’s not right.

And because I love this great country, because I’m very proud of being here, I’m proud to say that what’s going on it’s unconstitutional and as my father said yesterday, this is about dignity and humanity, it’s not about borders.

So as I said, only the people can save the people. I know I’m only a singer and I’m sorry for speaking too long, but this is an important matter to me, and is important for me to represent my community. Thank you so much for listening to me.”
