Introducing Nadia Loren with debut single ‘It’s Whatever’

Rising star Nadia Loren join the Toast roster, alongside the release of her highly anticipated debut single ‘It’s Whatever’, released via VLF Records. It comes alongside an incredible blacksocks (Amir Hossain)-directed video.

The track finds Nadia zooming out on her emotions – grappling with personal experiences, relationships and struggling to comprehend the weight of her decisions. “I find that when you’re going through something, a breakup or ending a friendship or whatever it is, in the moment those experiences can feel very “world ending’.”  Nadia reflects. “Writing this song helped me realise that everything in life is momentary and that every good or bad emotion you experience can be beautiful.”

Written alongside one of her close friends Harry in his living room, and finished with the creative hand of Mura Masa, ‘It’s Whatever’ captures Nadia’s hallmark blend of cinematic storytelling, heartfelt honesty, and youthful euphoria. The original demo vocals – rushed in one take before Nadia ran to catch a train – were left untouched, lending the track a raw intimacy that feels both diaristic and universal.

Speaking on the process, Nadia reflects: “This song is also special to me as it feels like a time capsule in a way – it reminds me of coming home early on the train, hanging out with my friends, blue lights, kissing, smoke it’s all very visual to me. Writing the lines ‘say whatever, it’s whatever’ felt so freeing in a way because now it just reminds me that you should allow yourself to have fun, make mistakes, feel whatever you are feeling and nothing is permanent so you might as well be yourself and have a great time.”

Freshly finished with her A-levels, the 18-year old Kent-born, London-based artist has already proven she’s got the brains, ambition, and artistry to back up the hype that has been rapidly culminating around her. After organically fostering a reverent online following – which led to her selling out her debut London headline show in just four minutes – Nadia draws inspirations from the world-building songwriting of the likes of Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey and Lorde. Raised in Rochester and surrounded by her parent’s eclectic record collection, featuring everything from Bowie, The Velvet Underground to the Britpop classics, Nadia combined these influences with her love of film, poetry and the local gig circuit to shape her own unique sound: a blend of ‘happy/sad pop’ that’s as suited for late night drives and bedroom reflections as it is for dance floors.

With this anthemic debut under her belt and more exciting news on the horizon, Nadia Loren is fast becoming one of the UK’s most thrilling new voices. Her ever-growing fanbase proves the appetite for her artistry is already there, and she is poised to define the new era of pop; smart, cinematic and deeply relatable.
