Rising Irish Neo-Soul, Jazz and Hip-Hop band Projective return with the soul-stirring, emotive new single ‘Question’.

Following a wave of critical acclaim for their first two singles including plays from BBC Radio 6 Music and repeat B-List placements from Jazz FM, the new single showcases more of the band’s unique blend of neo-soul, hip-hop and jazz.

Recorded with long-term collaborator Kealan Kenny (Youth, Pa Sheehy (former Walking on Cars), Niall McCabe, TOUCAN, Allie Sherlock), ‘Question’ is a vibrant addition to the band’s growing catalogue. A rich and alluring soundscape, packing rich live instrumentation and the band’s stylistic, layered trio of vocals, the single delivers more of the band’s innate musicality and ability as songwriters on a track which is heartfelt, yet euphoric and defiant.

Talking about the single, the band explains: “Question feels like an expansion on the sound we’ve been going for with our past few singles. It’s always been a big song in our live performances, and we wanted to capture that energy in the big moments, while also making it feel intimate and personal and letting the lyrics about a delicate romantic situation shine.

Lyrically, it’s a song about constantly asking yourself why you won’t let yourself walk away from a toxic romance that you know is no good. That is always easier said than done, and “Question” examines that feeling closely.

The contrast between the verses and choruses on this track was something we were very careful to emphasise when we were going through the production and recording process for the track. Having parts of the song be stripped to drums/bass/vocals, with other parts having a soaring arrangement filled with brass and stacks of double tracked guitars and keys was very intentional.

We feel the contrast in the track accurately translates how the song feels to play live.”

Having played across the major Irish festival circuit in 2024, with slots at Electric Picnic, All Together Now, Other Voices, and a sold out St. Luke’s Cathedral for Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, Projective have quickly gained momentum with coverage across tastemaker press and radio including the likes of Notion, DMY, Hot Press, Nialler9, District, RTE 2 FM, Jazz FM, BBC Radio 6 Music, 1883 and Atwood to name a few.

Having opened for the likes of Monjola and Aby Coulibaly in live performances, Projective also headlined multiple shows across Ireland, selling out venues and building a strong local following. With a series of sold out headline shows across Ireland in their first year of gigging, including Cork Opera House’s Green Room, the band have built a reputation as one of the best new live bands on the scene. With appearances at the Everyman Theatre for Cork Guinness Jazz 2023 and Chamomile Garden Dublin with the likes of Jordan Adetunji and Strandz, the band continue to build momentum with each new release.
