LIL ZAY OSAMA ANNOUNCES ‘THE STREETS CALLING MY NAME, PT. 2’ EP WITH NEW SINGLE
Continuing a prolific creative season from behind bars, Chicago’s Lil Zay Osama drops a new single entitled “Free Dem Ones, Pt. 2” with Mozzy out now via Warner Records. It heralds the arrival of his new EP, The Streets Calling My Name, Pt. 2, on November 1, 2024.
On “Free Dem Ones, Pt. 2,” he picks up where he left off on its successor, “Free Dem Ones.” The same production sets the track in motion. Soft strings glide over the piano, accented by a guitar. Zay reports from the frontlines of the struggle, extending a hand and support to incarcerated friends and family members. You can practically hear him shaking his head, “Lawyer money wasted, bond money wasted, folks going back and forth to jail on new cases, I’m trying to do what I can for ‘em.” California powerhouse Mozzy backs him up with a fiery verse punctuated by a plea, “We need you home.” Ultimately, these two voices rally together in order to uplift.
Zay unveiled The Streets Calling My Name at the beginning of September. Beyond amassing over 7.5M global streams, it earned critical acclaim. HotNewHipHop applauded the standout “How I Grew Up” [feat. Polo G], going on to attest, “It showcases a more vulnerable side of the rapper.”
The Streets Calling My Name is Zay’s first project since the release of Hood Bible 2, which included tracks like “Go” Ft. BabyDrill, “Favorite Girl,” and “I Made It.” It followed in the wake of his 4 The Trenches mixtape, which arrived just months prior. That came after a 2023 singles run that drove home just how prolific Zay can be. “Changed Up” and “Fuck My Cousin Pt. II” ft. Lil Durk became RIAA certified Gold, while tracks like “Glah Glah,” “Humble,” and “Had Nun” made an impact.
