Royel Otis Reach #1 on Alternative Radio with “moody”

Aussie indie duo Royel Otis score their first #1 at alternative radio with “moody”, the lead single from their forthcoming second album, hickey, out August 22 on OURNESS / Capitol Records. The effortlessly infectious song ascends to the top of this week’s Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart, making them the first new act this year to nab a Triple A crown.
A lilting cut with a sticky hook and easy ’90s slacker groove, “moody” was rightly described by Ones to Watch as “the perfect indie daydream.” It was co-written by Royel Otis (Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic) with GRAMMY-winner Amy Allen, and produced by Blake Slatkin (Gracie Abrams, Omar Apollo, Charli XCX). To celebrate the launch of the song and the band’s new musical era in May, they played back-to-back gigs at West Hollywood’s storied Troubadour which sold out within minutes. Fans lucky enough to attend were treated to more unreleased music.
Last month, Royal Otis shared the second taste of hickey, a bittersweet slice of jangle-pop called “car” that launched as a BBC Radio 1 “Hottest Record” — watch the music video HERE and an acoustic performance live in L.A. HERE. The band has been on a tear through nearly every festival worth attending stateside and abroad, while also making time for pop-up shows along the way. In Toronto, they even played to the legions of fansoutside who didn’t make it into the impromptu gig.
Royel Otis have also been adding dates to their upcoming “meet me in the car” tour, which kicks off August 5in Seattle before sweeping across North America and heading to Europe in November. The pair have already sold out major cities including Austin, Toronto, and New York. Visit https://www.royelotis.com/tour/ for more info, and find Royel Otis’ full tour itinerary below.
