urika’s bedroom releases debut album + shares new music video

urika’s bedroom releases debut album Big Smile, Black Mire via True Panther. Self-produced and engineered by urika’s bedroom the album is built upon the modern art of guitar processing and recontextualization. The album comes alongside a new black-and-white visualizer of distorted images for track “Metalhead” created by Rich Smith.

Throughout the project, ub renders a lucid depiction of longing, alienation, and multivalent emotional experiences powered by an avant-garde creative direction. The album includes previously released singles “Video Music,” “Circle Games,” “XTC” and debut single “Junkie.” ub shares about the album, “A lot of it is pulling from this point of emotional juxtaposition, the ability to feel multiple emotions at once, internally as well as externally.” ub discusses this concept further in a recent interview for Pigeons & Planes ‘Best New Artists .’

urika’s bedroom is currently on tour with Chanel Beads across Europe and will be playing Pitchfork festival in Paris and London next week. In January and February 2025, ub will kick off with dates in North America including Tomorrow Never Knows Festival in Chicago, followed by shows in New York and their hometown of Los Angeles. urika’s bedroom began playing in various genre-fluid bands in Los Angeles, leading to fruitful creative relationships and producing for like-minded artists such as untitled (halo) and Ded Hyatt. In fall 2023, ub invited audiences into an intimate artistic space while heading on tour with Youth Lagoon and Nourished By Time. They are now making their first full statement as an artist with Big Smile, Black Mire. The album as a whole is a marvel of scene-setting, a showcase for ub’s intuitive understanding of what makes for an evocative and devastating arrangement.
