Wyatt Waddell Chicago Boy Wonder Releases Timeless Soul/R&B Single “You.” Featured Artist On Vic Mensa Single!
23 year old fast rising multi-instrumentalist Wyatt Waddell, today released his latest timeless Soul-R&B single “You,” out now on Rosebud Allday. The self taught wunderkind unleashed his new track “You,” set to establish him as a breakthrough prodigious vocal and songwriting talent, adeptly amalgamating classic sounds of funk, R&B, rock and pop. Wyatt recently appeared as a featured artist on Vic Mensa’s new song, “No More Tear Drops,” which Mensa performed live at Lollapalooza 2020 Virtual Fest.
“You”’s virtuoso falsetto, vintage piano, slow-jam beats, and layered harmonic soundscapes, build to a crescendo, and will draw comparison to the work of multi instrumentalist legend Prince as well as Wyatt’s contemporary influences which he cites as artists from Anderson Paak to Brittany Howard. Wyatt recently received critical support from NPR, Rolling Stone, A.V. Club, Chicago Tribune, compare Waddell’s debut single and recent protest anthem “Fight!,” to a diverse range of artists including, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, The Beatles and Sly & The Family Stone.
A story about heartache and longing, Waddell explains “‘You’ is “a heartbreak song about stopping your life for someone else. It’s about the stupidity of infatuation and the angst for something you’ve never had.”
Wyatt also drew inspiration from producers such as Quincy Jones, George Martin, Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff as influences on his eclectic genre blending style. Speaking about the production for the single Wyatt states, “When everything shut down I had a lot of time to think and reflect. It gave me a chance to change up the pace from working with a full band on my debut record. It was Jsun Rose and I in the studio working on You, kinda how we started working together for the first time back in 2017. Bringing it back to our roots and drawing on some of the great production sounds and techniques from the 70s.”
Chicago’s “Boy Wonder,” built a local presence through his remarkable Instagram loop videos, showcasing his powerful versatile vocal range, perfect pitch and instinctive songwriting, creating a huge buzz in his local Chicago music scene. Now poised to make his national breakthrough, Waddell recently featured on Rosebud Allday’s mixtape where he was showcased alongside other notable indiependent Chicgao artists for his single, “If I Don’t Want You,” which can be streamed here. Prior to the unfortunate impact of COVID-19, Waddell performed with his seven piece backing band all over Chicagoland with plans to showcase his talents across the U.S. in 2020 and was forced to reschedule their tour to 2021.
