ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER RETURNS TO ATLANTA’S FOX THEATRE FEBRUARY 17-21, 2027 FOR SIX MOVING PERFORMANCES

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, one of the world’s most popular dance companies and a beloved American cultural ambassador to the world, announces a return to the Fox Theatre, February 17-21, 2027 as part of a 23-city North American tour led by Alicia Graf Mack, the Daria L. and Eric J. Wallach Artistic Director of AILEY. The Company’s Atlanta engagement will showcase the passionate artistry and technical brilliance of Ailey’s incredible dancers during six awe-inspiring performances, including stunning new works by today’s premier choreographers and cherished classics from the Ailey repertory that have moved audiences for generations.
Alicia Graf Mack said, “Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s return to Atlanta is an opportunity to celebrate Alvin Ailey’s legacy in motion, manifesting his audacious vision for dance, community, and humanity. Moving forward with bold artistry, innovation and the brilliance of 32 world-class dancers, we are so excited to raise the Fox Theatre curtain on a new season of excellence and innovation, including a celebration of the Power of Love paying joyful tribute to legendary musical force Luther Vandross. Atlanta continues to be a cherished and heartwarming home for the transformative artistry, uplift and welcoming spirit of AILEY.”
Select performances will feature this season’s world premiere Power of Love, choreographed by Jamar Roberts and inspired by legendary musical artist Luther Vandross, in collaboration with Primary Wave Music and the Luther Vandross Estate. R&B, soul, and pop legend Luther Vandross is beloved for songs that chronicled universal emotions and experiences and became the soundtrack to millions of lives. To celebrate what would be his 75th birthday, renowned choreographer Jamar Roberts brings Vandross’ romantic, funky, and eminently danceable music exuberantly to life with his intuitive, emotionally resonant movement, with costumes designed by Andre Landeros Michel of LANDEROS NEW YORK.
The must-see finale of all programs will be Alvin Ailey’s beloved masterpiece, Revelations, the ultimate anthem to resilience and joy. Since its debut in 1960, Revelations has been seen by more people around the world than any other modern dance work, moving audiences with its powerful storytelling and soul-stirring music, evoking timeless themes of determination, hope, and transcendence. Springing from Mr. Ailey’s childhood memories of growing up in the South and attending services at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Texas, Revelations pays homage to the rich cultural heritage of the African American and explores the emotional spectrum of the human condition.
This season, AILEY Artistic Director Alicia Graf Mack opens a new chapter with the release of Introducing Rhythm, her debut children’s book featuring illustrations by Justin Campbell. Bridging her passion for dance, education, and children, the book encourages young readers ages 4–12 to embrace their individuality, celebrate diverse dance styles, and discover the rhythm within them. Introducing Rhythm will be available at merchandise stands during the performances, as well as online at IntroducingRhythm.com.

In 1958, Alvin Ailey and a small group of dancers took the stage in New York and forever changed American dance and culture. One of the country’s groundbreaking greats, his company earned a reputation as one of the finest international ambassadors of American culture, promoting the uniqueness of the African American cultural experience and the preservation and enrichment of American modern dance. Now in its seventh decade and led by Artistic Director Alicia Graf Mack, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s performances continue to inspire, enlighten and entertain all in a universal celebration of the human spirit.
The compelling story of the life, work, and legacy of Alvin Ailey is also the subject of Portrait of Ailey, an eight-part documentary series available for free on AILEY.org or PBS LearningMedia, with accompanying educational resources for teachers and students. Created by Ailey II Artistic Director Emerita Sylvia Waters, Portrait of Ailey combines rare historical film and still images with contemporary footage to create a sweeping narrative of Mr. Ailey as a performer, choreographer, celebrity, teacher, social activist, arts advocate, and the creator of an enduring institution.
