CONNIE DIIAMOND DROPS NEW EP UNDERDOG SZN: BRB
UNDERDOG SZN is officially underway. Bronx spitter Connie Diiamond serves up a new EP, Underdog Szn: BRB via Def Jam Recordings.
Connie Diiamond delivers a 10-track body of work powered up by her elite lyricism and hard-hitting hooks. The opener and single “Choose You” leans on an airy soundscape, layering a pitched-up vocal sample over hypnotic synths. She gets in her feelings on the verses, going on to make a confession during the chorus, “All I want is you.” Upping the ante for unpredictability with a yodeling sample, Jersey club drums set “Messy” in motion. Connie’s sizzling flow practically scorches on sight as she proclaims, “I’m really her”, proceeding to issue a warning, “Don’t make me act up!” Then, there’s “Sleep.” Dreamy keys belie the intensity and force of her fast-paced cadence. Braggadocios bars build towards the final blow, “I put your ass to sleep.” Plus, she recruits Big Yellow, Vae Vanilla, and Lil Kayla to refresh a fan favorite with “Let Me See Something (Extended).” The latter illuminates the verbal prowess of this cohort of rapidly rising stars.
The project also includes the buzzing “Jodeci (Remix)” featuring Vontee The Singer & Cash Cobain. Earlier this year, “Jodeci” arrived to critical acclaim. Hinging on an interpolation of the iconic “Come & Talk to Me” by pioneering R&B outfit Jodeci, it incited tastemaker applause. XXL touted the song among “The 13 Best New Hip-Hop Songs This Week,” and VIBE plugged it. The Source professed, “Connie Diiamond is turning up the heat this summer with her latest release”.
UPROXX applauded the original “Let Me See Something” [with Dusty Locane] among “The Best New Hip-Hop This Week,” attesting to how she “offers exactly the lyrically-focused, hard-edged street rap certain heads say they want.” It has amassed nearly half a million streams and counting.
The previously-released “Shoot” featured on the soundtrack for NBA 2K24. Earlier this year, Connie was selected as a BET Amplified artist for March. A nod to her impact, she closed out 2023 with a groundbreaking collaboration for the seventh remix to her original single, “Ghetto & Ratchet,” featuring Remy Ma. The Jersey-club influenced hit saw unparalleled success and was performed at the 2024 BET Awards Red Carpet Live Preshow.
Among many accomplishments, Connie has notched major co-signs from the likes of NBA superstar LeBron James, who marveled at her viral Ludacris-sampled freestyle in 2023. The rapper then made waves with the release of her debut LP, Underdog SZN, featuring Dame D.O.L.L.A., Don Q, and more.
