EMERGING POP SENSATION BENJAMIN ELGAR UNVEILS NEW TRACK “HOE” WITH BHAD BHABIE
Emerging Los Angeles-based pop sensation Benjamin Elgar unveils his new track “Hoe” in collaboration with rapper Bhad Bhabie. “Hoe” was written by Elgar, Bhabie and Loopy Ferrell and produced by The Last Artful, Dodgr (Mark Ronson, Anderson .Paak, Yebba) and John Ho (Chloë, Demi Lovato). As a truly multi-hyphenate artist with limitless creative energy, Elgar matches his attitude-driven pop anthems and sharp-tongued songwriting with a self-directed music video that further showcases his passion for top-to-bottom world-building.
Of the song, Elgar recalls, “’Hoe’ is, for me, about that side of you that comes out on certain occasions—when you let yourself be your freest, when you’re out, when you’re going to parties and you’re on the apps and giving in to your desires for a change. I wanted to lean into that on a song and just let my ‘Hoe’ side out.”
Elgar furthers, “It’s always been about the music as much as the visuals for me—the editing, the coloring, the people I wanted to work with. I want my finished product to sound the best, look the best, because I know I’m giving my best too. I think that’s what this entire release is showcasing.”
Premiering today on PAPER Magazine, they praise the new release by proclaiming, “Elgar is bringing a rare attitude and claiming his space… Tapping Bhad Bhabie was the right move for a song that seeks to exude power and gravitas.” With just three previous releases under his belt, Elgar’s rise to prominence showcases a remarkable achievement in such a short period of time.
Their musical career began taking shape after Benjamin Elgar moved to Los Angeles in 2019, having spent much of their teenage years dancing and gigging and fine-tuning their artistry in nightclubs back home in Romania. “I’d bring dancers with me, I’d use the screens the nightclubs had, I’d create my own visuals,” Benjamin remembers. “Anything at my disposal, I’d use—even at 16, I was directing my show, making sure the lighting was the way I wanted it and just taking full advantage of those resources. I just knew who I was and what I wanted the world to see from me.”
In Los Angeles, after dropping out of film school and odd-jobbing their way around town in order to survive during the pandemic (finding income with gigs like ghostwriting for other artists), Benjamin found a team who took up their cause. Creatives who understood and invested in the vision, such as The Last Artful, Dodgr and John Ho helped bring previously released singles like “Better Tho” and “Shameless” to life. Upon release, “Better Tho” debuted at #3 on the iTunes Pop Charts and reached #9 worldwide.
Similarly, vocal engineer Manny Marroquin (Justin Bieber, Katy Perry) and vocal masterer Dave Kutch (a 14x Grammy-nominee whose roster includes Justin Timberlake and Billie Eilish) joined the team to help Benjamin complete their artistic vision. With a brilliant group of collaborators in place, Elgar is primed to have a big year.
