With only a handful of songs released so far and over 28M global streams to date, one name has been on everyone’s lips as a clear frontrunner for Britain’s most exciting breakthrough artist this year, ENNY. Following the premiere of her new single, “I Want” as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World (which was also selected as Nick Grimshaw’s Track of the Week), the 25-year-old Thamesmead-born singer releases the official video, directed by creative collaborator Asher Korner. Displaying a carefree, feel-good aesthetic that perfectly matches the track’s summery tone, it’s another high-quality offering from London’s next superstar.
It’s impossible to overstate just how meteoric ENNY’s rise has been over the last few months. In October of last year, the artist released her breakthrough third single “Peng Black Girls” (feat. Amia Brave) to rapturous acclaim. The track was written as a unifying statement for Black women everywhere and was further propelled into the spotlight by a very special remix courtesy of Jorja Smith which won her famous fans from across the globe such as Summer Walker, Didier Drogba, Skepta, Chris Brown, and many more. In late March, ENNY followed it up with “Same Old,” a feel-good anthem about overcoming the everyday adversity of life, not to mention dealing with issues of gentrification, Brexit, and failed romance. The track’s undeniably gorgeous hooks and powerful lyrics established ENNY’s reputation as a singular artistic voice like none other. From being playlisted across BBCRadio1, 1Xtra & Rinse FM, making her debut TV debut on Later…with Jools Holland, winning a slot in this year’s Dazed 100, and gracing the covers of Crack Magazine, POP, Wonderland, and The Guardian Guide and additional press looks from Vogue, Pitchfork and Fader, ENNY has truly arrived as the vital, unique and important young voice needed this year.
