G Flip Unveils New Single and Music Video “Big Ol’ Hammer”
Just in time for Pride, acclaimed singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist G Flip has returned with their rip-roaring and unapologetically queer new single “Big Ol’ Hammer.” The anthemic track is available to stream and download beginning today via Awal Recordings. G Flip has also unveiled an outrageously fun official music video for the track. Watch it on their YouTube channel HERE.
“This is probably the queerest song I’ve ever written. This song is about the feeling of putting on a tool belt with a big ol’ hammer – it’s camp, tongue-in-cheek, fun, and not to be taken too seriously. When I wrote it, I immediately knew I wanted to release it during Pride,” shares G Flip.
Inspired by “Grease Lightnin’,” the official music video for “Big Ol’ Hammer” sees G and a group of queer icons performing a choreographed dance in G’s Lez Go! Auto shop—until they’re hilariously interrupted by comedian Fortune Feimster. Additional cameos in the clip include Shannon Beveridge, Jacqueline Toboni, Aisha Dee, Kath Ebbs, Siena Liggins, Niki Demar, Julianne Hope, Jesse Thomas, K Sotomayor, Olly Elyte, and Hina Sabatine. The music video for “Big Ol’ Hammer” was directed by Anne-Sophie Bine.
“I feel so fortunate to have had so many of my talented friends involved in the queer video of my dreams,” adds G Flip. “It was really important to me to have diverse representation in the video – I wanted queer representation, non-binary representation, trans representation. Now more than ever, representation is so important, but it doesn’t always have to be serious! Representation in a fun way is also needed. Happy Pride!!”
G Flip will celebrate Pride with a headlining performance on the centerfield plaza stage at LGBTQ+ Pride Night at LA’s Dodgers Stadium on June 13. They will also appear at Boston’s OutLoud Music Festival and Montreal Pride later this summer. Additionally, G Flip will perform at festivals including Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party, and both the Washington, DC and New York City editions of All Things Go Music Festival later this year. A complete list of upcoming live dates and ticket information can be found HERE.
Kicking off a bold new era, G Flip released their first single of 2025, “Disco Cowgirl,” last month. The exuberant, ‘80s-inspired song arrived to widespread acclaim from Billboard, Entertainment Tonight, and more. Rolling Stone praised the track as a “song you need to know,” while GLAAD crowned it the “song of the summer”. Listen to “Disco Cowgirl”.
G Flip’s latest singles follow their celebrated 2023 sophomore LP DRUMMER. Highlighted by tracks including “Be Your Man,” “The Worst Person Alive,” and “Good Enough,” the album shot to #1 on the ARIA charts and was named triple j’s best album of the year. In 2024, G Flip released their sensational cover of Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” – earning approval from Taylor herself. They spent most of the year on their massive DRUMMER Tour which sold over 65,000 tickets across the world. The tour included sold out runs in the US, UK and Australia, performances at Governor’s Ball, Hangout Fest, Reading and Leeds, co-headline shows with The Beaches, a surprise guest appearance from Mike Shinoda, and an ARIA award for the Best Live Act.
G Flip has cemented their status as a truly singular voice in modern music, and is becoming the role model they never had growing up. The Melbourne-born, Los Angeles-based artist matches their potent musicianship with sonic originality and a fantastically outspoken point-of-view (an element informed by their experience as a queer, non-binary artist).
