The Fillmore was flooded with tons of music fans excited as ever that live music shows were finally back. The equally excited bands were in the building to rock the house. The Summer Salt Fall 21’ Tour is a 25 city tour and Friday September 24, the band played in Philadelphia with Covey and Breakup Shoes on the east coast portion of the tour.

To kick off the night, folk/pop band Covey mastered the stage. Lead singer and multi-instrumentalist, Tom Freeman shared his personal stories about his childhood which included a rare condition which kept him constantly at the dentist and the time a man spilled scalding hot coffee on his younger sister. While the British front-man’s stories were interesting, they were only enhanced by the noticeable stage presence of Covey as they performed songs from albums such as Class of Cardinal Sin and Some Cats Live, Some Cats Die. They did everything on stage necessary to warm up the crowd.

The Phoenix, Arizona based-band, Breakup Shoes came onto stage on the heels of their recent release of their EP, Narratives. The band has come a long way from high school church band to now touring the country with Summer Salt. If the crowd was not familiar with the band, they are definitely fans now as the band exhibited its hazy melodic sound. Additionally, what more could you ask for on stage after witnessing the bassist and guitarist switching instruments mid-set?

With full anticipation from the crowd, Summer Salt came out to rock the stage. The Texas based duo consist of singer/guitarist Matt and drummer Euguene. They are no newbies when it comes to live shows. They navigated through the local music scene in Austin, Texas in 2014 with their debut album, Driving to Hawaii. The duo performed songs off of their latest project, Sequoia Moon was released on June 25. The show was electric as the sounds of such songs as “Colors of Your Love” and “Hocus Pocus” sent good vibes throughout the Fillmore. Summer Salt initially closed out the show, they proceeded to walk off stage to the roars and cheers from the crowd. They came out 30 seconds later to perform 3 more songs to officially end the night, much to the surprise of the crowd.
