Hellcat Speedracer announces ‘forever never here.’ tour and drop new video for ‘Back to Life’ ft KOATES. New EP is out now
Fresh from releasing their second EP, electronic duo Hellcat Speedracer announce their forever never here. Tour taking in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide from next month. Fans can expect the unexpected: a wildly energetic, visually explosive electronic assault built for non-stop dancing.
The five-track forever never here. EP features the new single ‘Back To Life’ ft. KOATES, a feel-good anthem about squeezing every last moment out of a night out with your best mates. To celebrate today’s announcement, the Sydney duo have also released the track’s official video.
forever never here., unfolds like a night out from dusk until sunrise. Opening with the euphoric pulse of ‘Ultraviolet’ then drifting into the cinematic emotion of ‘Minutes Of You‘ before hitting peak dancefloor energy with ‘Stay Blessed’ ft. LEGZDINA, forever never here. finally slips into the hazy escapism of ‘Meet Me At The Afterparty‘ before the journey culminates with new single ‘Back To Life’ ft KOATES.
‘Back To Life’ is an anthemic finale that captures everything at the heart of the record: soaring melodies, emotional songwriting and festival-sized production that feels equally nostalgic and forward-looking.
The track features London-based songwriter, topliner and DJ producer KOATES whose collaborations include Camden Cox and Klingande. Most notably he featured and co-wrote on John Summit’s single ‘Undo’. KOATES recently joined Summit onstage at his sold-out Experts Only event at Tofte Manor (UK) and regularly performs as a guitarist with the UK duo Good Neighbours.
The psychedelic animated official video features Hellcat Speedracer and KOATES and is directed by award-winning creative director and cinematographer Billy Zammit, whose credits include people like Ninjarachi, DMA’s and Peking Duk.
Speaking about their new single, Hellcat Speedracer share: ”Back To Life is a tune you slap on in the dying moments of the afterparty to get everyone right back in! A warm summer day in London and a couple chilled reds with a new friend kicked off the conception for Back To Life. We met Koates for the first time doing exactly this. It was an instantaneous kinship that led to talking around a kitchen table well into the night, exchanging stories from our lives and learning more about our love for music, very much a “did we just become best friends” moment.”
Director Billy Zammit shares: “Surreal maximal absurdism, creative top line dream words that brought together the HCSR world through the lens of distorted sounds and sweaty dancefloors. Ideating the concept for this release with the boys (HCSR) was an opportunity to flex our skillsets from large scale compositing to heavy art directed character building, there was only ‘yes’ answers when directing the absurdist realism that is forever never here.”
Written between Australia and the UK, forever never here. brings together an impressive cast of collaborators, including previously mentioned KOATES, legendary British producer Richard X (Sugababes, Kelis, Pet Shop Boys), London-based producer Pat Alvarez (The Blessed Madonna, Griff, Joy Crookes, Jon Hopkins) and Lativa-born London-based artist LEGZDINA (Idris Elba, Sara Landry).
Hellcat Speedracer explain: “forever never here. is not just our EP, but a state of being. We coined this phrase as a way to give meaning to the lifestyle we have been living in our 20s moving towards 30. It is a sub-conscience experience creating a constant state of reflection of one’s life, much like hangxiety after a big night.”
