Hannah Cameron started the night out at the Corner Hotel with some absolutely beautiful songs from her brand new album “Holding Pattern” (released 22 September 2023) including hit singles “Take The Blame” and “The Wrong Way”.

Hannah provides some soft yet mesmerising vocals accompanied perfectly by her low baritone Gretsch guitar, the crowd was continually left stunned by her powerful lyrics and delicate vocal control.

With Matt Dixon pulling double duties this gig, playing both his Pedal Steel Guitar and Bass guitar for the night as well as Leigh Fisher on drums, Hannah and her band brought in an emotionally subtle and poetic set for this opening and showing the US guys how it’s done in the Australian Folk scene.

A dark venue and quiet crowd were quickly flipped around when Michael Crow Taylor aka Hiss Golden Messenger walked out on stage for their first ever Australian show. Jamming away some fantastic Folk and Country tunes off their recently released album “Jump For Joy” the crowd was soon whistling and cheering their way through the set, which included a few instrumental songs that gave the individual members time to shine and show off their mastery of their instruments, including some tearing beats by drummer Nick Falk, groovy bass lines from Alex Bingham, some smooth leads from both keyboardist Sam Fribush and guitarist Chris Boerner, the crack shot band came together to put on a very entertaining performance with plenty of feel good lyrics and jokes from Taylor himself, who has clearly learnt well how to control and engage his audience in ways that keep them always wanting more.

Wanting to accurately showcase his history in music, Taylor and his Golden Messengers played a few songs from his past albums and gave the crowd plenty to dance and sing alone to all throughout the night.

Closing out the night with an encore performance in response to a roaring crowd, Hiss Golden Messenger really did make the packed Corner Hotel Jump For Joy.
