Jack Gray releases long-awaited debut album, Swimming In Jeans
Australian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Jack Gray releases his long-awaited debut album Swimming In Jeans. Across 12 tracks, the album bottles the rush, recklessness and emotional whiplash of youth, into deeply personal indie-pop.
The album lands as Jack’s national headline tour comes to a close with sold-out shows in Sydney tonight and Brisbane tomorrow.
Alongside today’s release, Jack shares the official video for his new single ‘Blind Lovin’, recorded with friend and collaborator Gabe Yaron. Together they set out to capture that rush of being blindingly smitten, teased out through the songs slow build that becomes subtly dizzying.
The accompanying video sees Jack reunite with The Matthew Brothers who worked with him on videos for singles ‘Bluffin’ and ‘Look At You’. Filmed in Italy, ‘Blind Lovin’ also carries the same cinematic touch and light-hearted playful mood seen in the earlier videos.
‘Blind Lovin’ caps a steady drip-feed of singles from Swimming In Jeans, following ‘Safe Space’ ‘Look At You’, ‘Drive Her Home’, ‘Bluffin’, ‘Tattoos’ (co-written with Peach PRC), and the album’s title track and debut single ‘Dumb Sh*t’. The perfectionist in Jack went through thirteen versions of Dumb Sh*t before returning to and sticking with the first. Together, the album singles have accumulated more than 3.6 million streams contributing to Jack’s catalogue of 50 million global streams.
In the lead-up to Swimming In Jeans, Jack has appeared on the covers of this month’s Scenestr Magazine and today’s digital edition of The Music. His debut single ‘Dumb Sh*t’ was chosen as Rolling Stone ANZ Best Australian Music of The Week while Atwood Magazine noted his “strong sense of musicality”. Album single have featured across playlists including Spotify’s New Music Friday in 16 markets, All New Pop, Pop Rising, POPpin’ and Pop n’ Fresh; Apple Music’s New Music Daily, New in Pop, Heartbreak Pop, In My Room and Heaps Local Hits; and Amazon Music’s Down Under, Breakthrough Pop, Australia Now and Brand-New Music.
Recorded over 12 months from songs written across 3 years, Swimming In Jeans took shape in various studios in Australia and abroad. Produced and performed almost entirely by Jack, the album features him on drums, bass, guitar, synth and piano. That same versatility sits at the heart of his current headline tour, where he brings the album to life solo, moving between instruments throughout the set.
From recording songs in his childhood bedroom in Mackay to performing on stages across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US, Europe, Southeast Asia and Canada, Jack Gray has toured alongside Tate McRae, Maren Morris, Jeremy Zucker, Daniel Seavey, Matt Corby, Maisie Peters, Good Neighbours and, most recently, Freya Skye.
Joining Jack Gray on his current headline tour are Jenzen Guino from the Philippines, where Jack recently completed a whirlwind promotional tour and adding to the line-up on three shows, is very special guest, breakthrough country pop artist Rachael Fahim. Following his performances at Reeperbahn Festival in Germany on Sept 19, Jack will join US group In Color for selected dates across the US and Canada.
