KAMAL. SHARES NEW SINGLE “NO FRIEND, NO LOVER”
Caribbean-British singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kamal. shares new single “no friend, no lover’” out now via Def Jam Recordings / Neighbourhood Recordings. Listen HERE.
“no friend, no lover” is the latest glimpse into Kamal.’s highly anticipated debut album, continuing his exploration of identity, vulnerability, and the complexities of modern life. Produced by Kamal, Jonny Coffer (FKA Twigs, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar), J Moon (Miley Cyrus, Jim Legxacy), and Keaton Henson, the song unfolds with a relentlessly emotive country-infused rhythmic melody, delicate instrumentation and emotive vocals. The track addresses the emergence of insincere relationships with Kamal. reflecting on those who only appear when success makes them valuable.
“no friend, no lover” follows his recent release of “how the f*** does everybody else manage” (“HTFDEEM”) single and music video hinting at his forthcoming debut album as its ‘first chapter.’ Since the release of his 2023 debut mixtape, ‘so here you are, drowning’, the Harlesden-born vocalist has amassed 250 million streams to date, garnered features with major UK artists such as Central Cee and Dave, support slots alongside Central Cee and Jordan Rakei, as well as a special nod from multi-GRAMMY award winning pop superstar, Billie Eilish. Kamal. also received an Ivor Novello Award nomination for the Rising Star Award with Apple Music in 2021 – highlighting how highly regarded his honest, unguarded songwriting has become.
Kamal. has consistently refused to shy away from daunting questions, exploring themes of isolation, anxiety and nihilism that shape Gen Z’s everyday experiences. The nuance and emotional vulnerability of Kamal.’s lyricism have made him a relatable voice for a disoriented generation, setting the stage for a generation searching for answers on what’s to come.
