Kevin Durant Talks Music with Chase B on Boardroom’s AUX MONEY

NBA legend, Boardroom co-founder, and music aficionado Kevin Durant joins famed producer and DJ Chase B on the latest episode of AUX MONEY, presented by Boardroom.

In a conversation primarily focused on music (with plenty of basketball talk), Durant discusses how he started making his own beats, the best rappers from the DMV area, rappers and celebrities who can actually hoop, and what he considers the best mixtape ever (Lil Wayne’s Da Drought 3). He highlights producers like J Dilla, Kanye West, Madlib, and The Alchemist who inspired his own production style. While he thinks Killer Mike is an incredible artist and loves his work, he questions the intention and precedent of giving him the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.

He even reflects on working with Drake on his Scary Hours 3 EP. “I wanted him to just go straight at people’s heads with the rap sh*t – no hooks, no singing, just straight bars,” says Durant. “And he was feeling the same way. More than anything, I just encouraged him to lean into what he was feeling already.”

AUX MONEY host Chase B has become an iconic figure in his native Houston. The long-time DJ for Travis Scott is also a founding member of Cactus Jack, and his years on the scene have put him in direct contact with influential people across sports, music and entertainment. Between rappers, athletes and fellow DJs, AUX MONEY is an unconventional approach to the typical interview show and gives its audience a rare glimpse into notable figures in pop culture, all from the basement of Chase’s studio.
