LA MIO SHATTERS STEREOTYPES IN “CON TO’ LOS POWERS” HER DEBUT ALBUM
The versatile Puerto Rican artist La MiO kicks off July “Con To’ Los PoWeRs”, her debut studio album as a solo artist in which she pays homage to all the musical influences that marked her artistic life. The production will be available today on all digital platforms.
The multifaceted artist displays emotional duality through an A and B-side in “Con To’ Los PoWeRs.” Throughout the 15 songs, La MiO sings about all facets of womanhood, paying tribute to those who go through self-discovery and worthiness and those who dare to give free rein to their powers of seduction.
“I incorporate the feminist perspective in various ways [in my creative work]. From lyrics that highlight the struggle for equality and respect, to collaboration with artists, producers, and creative teams to foster representation and mutual support in the industry,” said the prolific Puerto Rican artist.
Through powerful urban drums, the focus track “Las Divas” celebrates the power of the independent woman and warns those who want to overstep with these divas: “si te pones bruto te dejamos a la deriva y te sumamos energía radioactiva” (if you act foolish, we leave you adrift and send you radioactive energy).
The music video, filmed in Buenaventura, Colombia, directed by Michael Cuadro and produced by Dimelomio along the production house Cuadro Studio, shows La MiO surrounded by her clan of divas, a group of women who personify female facets and incorporate ethnic diversity, including indigenous inhabitants of Buenaventura, as well as mothers, business women, artists, and domestic workers.

“Con To’ Los PoWeRs” showcases previously released singles “Echa Pa’lla,” a powerful and hypnotic song in which La MiO sets boundaries while embracing the power of intuition, and “Muy Bien,” a psychedelic journey of two accomplices. Percussion is one of the great sonic protagonists in both tracks and throughout the album, dictating the melodic rhythm accompanying the record’s social message.
Spirituality and the stars greatly influenced the creative development of the production, with both sides aligned to the artist’s astrological panorama within her natal chart.
“As an artist, my fire signs in the sun and ascendants bring a spark and vitality to my music, while my moon in cancer adds a layer of emotionality and depth to my compositions. This astrological combination, which is an alternative spirituality outside of religion, is reflected in the variety of sounds, lyrics, and emotions found on the album. It’s my intuition, what my mind says, creating an auditory experience that ranges from explosive energy to emotional introspection,” the artist revealed.
La MiO is known in her native Puerto Rico for her work as a cultural manager through the local urban-tropical cultural agenda Dimelomio, and for The Hang, a musical experience that unites musicians and audiences in unconventional places.
She also stands out for collaborations with artists such as El S. y Tanicha López, Musaraña, Plena Combativ, Bebo Dumont and PJ Sin Suela. Coming from a family of musicians, art has always been part of the singer’s life, incorporating rap and percussion as part of her musical DNA.
